Bottled Saturday

First batch came out just Ok. Brewing another today.

Well it's finished, I drank a few this weekend. One week in the primary, one week in the secondary and 2 weeks in the bottle. It tastes GREAT. A hint of banana aroma, with hint of citrus taste and a crisp finish. I will definitely be brewing this one again. "Hanks Hefeweizen" from midwest supplies.

I'm not a fan of wheat beer, but that one is pretty good.

Did anyone make it out to the winter warmer beer festival in Nashville over the weekend? I was overwhelmed with delicious beer.

My girlfriend's brother was visiting from out of town this weekend and we brewed up a quick English Brown Ale. Racked to a 5 gallon carboy Saturday evening and by sunday morning the airlock blew off. Definitely have some active fermentation.  I ran a blow off tube and will likely replace with a standard airlock this evening. I'm hoping to turn this around as quick as possible and have it bottled for when I see him again over Christmas.

I have brewed another 5 gal batch. 1. cause the wife didn't much like the hefeweizen 2. I like brewing and 3. I'm nearly out of the first batch :) I brewed midwest supplies "american light" 20min boil kit this time, its bottled and will be ready next week. I have also brewed a one gallon batch of my own recipe. Has been in the primary since Saturday. Hoping its similar to a Bluemoon or Shocktop

I got a brew kit shortly before Christmas. The wife and I brewed our first beer, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale, immediately after. I have since drank quite a few and it's good stuff. The next batch will be a double IPA.

Howdy all,

 

Just found this thread!  Wow... been brewing for a few years.  I'm generally an Imperial Stout or Belgian kinda guy but I try and keep everything ABOVE 10 ABV.... :-)

 

Just finished a keg of Scorpion Pepper Chocolate Imperial Stout that was pretty darn good... getting ready to do an early Porter style to see how it'll come out.

 

Good to know there are others with similar interests!!  We should have a brew fest!!

I like brewing Stout's too. Always lots of flavor and they are good to experiment with.

Here is my custom recipe in the secondary. Named it "Klauwplatt Belgian Ale"

My last Belgian was called "Drop Panties" Belgian... If I had know when I was younger about brewing... I'd have a lot more children and grandchldren!

 

Of course at 19% it was KICK ASS!

I'm assuming brew doesn't equal shine. Had to ask given the wine fermenter comments.

Correct, shine is distilled and is illegal for you to do. Wine is fermented and is legal according to federal law, check your state law. Ie, in Tennessee you can make 100 gallons of wine a year per adult living in your household up to a total of 200 gallons per year. Doesn't matter how much you have one hand as long as you abide by the 200 gallons a year. That is a total beer or wine, not 200 gallons each.

FYI: There is a home brew / craft beer coop in Maryville now. They have full selection of brew supplies, members get discounts and other benefits. Wife and i have met some nice folks there, I brewed for a short time years ago, may get into it again. Just enjoying some tasty brews for now.

I wish a shop would open up in Clarksville. Shipping charges on these packages cost almost as much as the item, so I only buy juice with free shipping, which limits what I can get. Would rather buy local.

Huh? Seems silly to have a brew store and not have a section for wine juice and such, especially when much of the equipment crosses over. They're missing out on a customer base that wouldn't take much to appeal to.

There used to be a brew shop in Nashville that dealt with hydrophonics as well. I used to drive down there for a lot for my supplies. The name doesn't come to mind right now but was down past the VA hospital and Vandy, in a little shopping center.

 

A friend and I was going to open a brewing supply store here in Clarksville but we felt like the interest just wasn't here. We started a brew club at the Fire Department (Fire Water Brewers) but I left the club when I retired. I've heard it fell apart. That's a shame, as we used to do group buys, brew together and have monthly tasting at our gatherings.

Went to BlueTick in Maryville tonight and talked to one of the master brewers. He said they do have some stuff for wine making. Mostly geared to beer brewing until there is a demand. They have only been open to non-members for about a month now. Edited February 16, 2014 by Static_USMC

Do you get to Nashville semi-often? There is All Seasons Gardening and Brewing Supply on 8th Ave S., right next door to America's Motorsports.
