SE TN/NW GA Milsurp Shoot Sunday September 14 2008

Hiya,

Several of us old military bolt action guys get together several times a year to shoot and BS. Every year or so we do a bigger gathering and get participation from other milsurpers around GA, AL, and parts north and west of SE TN. We're doing another shoot on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at the Sumac Creek Range in the Chattahoochee-Oconoee National Forest just over the TN/GA border near Cisco, GA off US 411.

We're real informal, some folks get there around 10 a.m., others 1 or 2 p.m. Sumac is a public range, nothing is reserved, we just show up. Cost is $5 per vehicle, so bring pals and split the tab. We've been known to shoot a few other Commie and east block guns, AKs, STG-44s, PPshs, but the range is semi-only so the fun switch has to remain in the off position. If you've an interest in military firearms, you don't have to bring anything to shoot, just show up and ask questions, nicely, of course, and most any of the guys will tell you more than you ever thought possible about their milsurps. It won't be a big crowd, most we've ever had has been close to 20 folks I think,more typical is a dozen or so.

If I was closer I'd go to that. I get that way every now and then, my folks live in N. GA. I don't have a military-surp rifle but I've always thought it would be neat to have a Mosin or other type. How hard are M1 Garands to get? Saving Private Ryan was on tv this weekend and watching it kind of made me want one.

Same - it sounds like a very fun day out but a little far to drive for only a few hours.
