9mm vs 22lr

I was just looking at gun bot checking ammo prices. I can buy 9mm ammo cheaper than 22lr, what's wrong with this picture?

Funny things is it's cheaper to buy new cartridges for my .300 Win Mag than it is to reload, that is unless I reload some crazy balls out hunting round, lol. Twenty pcs of Norma brass cost 29.99, I can pick up Hornady White Tail 150gr SP for the same price, lolz.

Just cause you saw the price doesn't mean people actually buy it. Actually the sites that list outrageous prices on 22lr have none in stock.

Nobody pays over 30 cents for 22lr, and that's the most I pay for 9mm (up to 60 cents for jhp defense)

Just a few examples of 22lr ammo prices. this is nuts I shoot my 9mm & 45 for these prices

That is simply insane.  I haven't been reloading for long, haven't reloaded a lot and have only reloaded for .38 Special so far.  That said, even with my lack of experience in finding the best deals on components, etc. the rounds I have reloaded so far have come out to be about $8 per box of 50 (using once-fired brass I had been saving over the years.)  That is about sixteen cents a round - right at half the price of the cheapest .22LR listed in your post.

I just can't imagine paying those prices.. I think I would learn the blacksmiths trade and and pound all my .22 firearms into throwing knives or hatchets..

I just got back from a trip to Florida and I stopped at a few LGS along the way and found Rem Golden bullets for $10 per 50rd box, found Rem Thunderbolts for $12 per $50 at another and finally I stopped at a gun & pawn shop (95% gun) and it turned out that one of the guys there knew some of my family that used to live in the area so I quizzed him on their .22 situation. He told me that up until about 1 month ago, they had not received any .22 from their vendors since back when all the commotion started. He said that he was having to go and buy in the secondary market (what we call scalpers) and was paying anywhere from $45 on up to $80 per brick. He said they just marked it up $10 and stuck it on the shelves. I asked him about if he'd had folks get mad because they thought he was gouging them but it sounded like they were just glad to have it. I guess I went a long ways to say, we think it's insane to pay that kind of money for .22 (and it is) but there are folks out there that want to shoot it that bad. It was just hard for me to believe how many bricks he had sold at those crazy high prices..

price gougers and hoarders killed the market big time, why 22LR I have no idea why...but the cost to mfg has not changed and the dealers

are paying the same costs they always have

sucks for all

My new ".22lr" is a 30-30 case with a 113 gr. cast bullet launched at 800 fps.

I like the way you think. I figured out that I can shoot 9mm and .45 for 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 cents per round and just got my mold in for Blackout bullets which shouldn't be much higher than the pistol rounds. I've managed to gather enough reasonably priced .22 to last a good while and will probably last much longer than I thought when I was buying it because like you, I have found other things to replace it with.
