Hardwood flooring

Anyone here in the hardwood flooring business? I need to locate some "java" 3/4 hardwood.

I deliver for the second largest wholesaler in the country. Are you trying to match an existing floor, or just found the color and like it?

Trying to match what I got, you will not believe the crap I've been through this week. Only to find out that the 6 boxes of java I have are actually 1 box if java and 5 boxes of golden.

What is the brand and item number? Do you remember where you purchased the wood? I won't know until i have the information, but don't be surprised if the color has been discontinued. With the exception of the extremely common and popular colors, many are eventually discontinued.

Hartco is owners by Armstrong, the same company that owns Bruce and several other flooring brands. Let me do some looking. It may be Monday before I know something, but I'll do some digging.

3 inches I think. Its standard flooring.

There's usually 2 1/4" (strip), 3 1/4" (plank) , 5" (wide plank)

Depending on your situation, you may be able to get away with a color that's similar to the Java. We couldn't afford to do our entire house at once, so when we started installing wood flooring in our house, we did the kitchen, living room and dining room at the same time, in the same color. That way, when we decide to do the 3 bedrooms, we can go with another color, if need be. I've seen that done a lot, and it looks just fine.

 

If the living room and dining room weren't the same color, that would be a big problem. They are next to each other, and the opening is 10'-12' wide, so it would have looked goofy.

Well, I guess I'll find something close and deal with it since I'm not taking up the whole bathroom floor for 1/2 a box. My brother got some hardwood once and it was a bunch of different shades. He mixed it all up and layed it in his house. Looks pretty good.

I used cabin/tavern grade 3/4"x3 1/4" butterscotch in my house. Being the cabin/tavern grade, there are a lots of shade/color variations. I think it looks good. Gives it some character.

Yes, very nice tdr. I figure about 1/2 box to finish the replacement. I do use cabin grade also and my kitchen, dining room, and hall looksa lot like that color but my wife wanted darker in my bathroom. Still have carpet in bedrooms and lliving room. Of course the living room is soon to get hardwood.

I am not sure how long it has been discontinued. What I would do (and I will continue to do some digging for you) is call some flooring stores in your area and find out if they sell or can get that brand. They can contact their distributors (we'll likely be one of them) to see if they happen to have any sitting around. I know we have some stuff in our warehouse that's been discontinued for some time.

I got that flooring for so cheap, I was able to pay someone to install it for me.

Man, now I really want to do the rest of my townhouse in hardwood flooring.  I had the entire first floor done while it was being built, and afterward wished I had the staircase and 2nd floor bedrooms done as well.

The stair are going to be the expensive part. I got a quote on the stairs leading into the bonus room, and I was told it would be roughly $100-$150 per stair. I don't recall if that was including materials or not.

Yeah, I figured the staircase would be expensive......and at the usual 15 steps, that is big chunk of change right there.  The carpeting upstairs is starting to look bad, and will need replacement soon.  So I would just as soon put down hardwood than re-carpet the floor.

 

I am just afraid that I will run into the same problem about matching the existing hardwood.  I chose the flooring from the builder's samples, so I have no idea of the manufacturer or item#.  I does look similar in color and grain to the pictures you posted.

I like wide-variation grain and color in a floor better. It looks more interesting.

The premium grade wood is often so well matched and boring, that one would get the same look from pergo or vinyl. So consistent that it looks "fake". Edited September 15, 2013 by Lester Weevils
