new at Amazon - Ham Radio For Dummies by Ward Silver, N0AX

I have set in on a number of Ward Silver's talks.  Amazing operator, and good writer.  This may be a excellent prep resource for you guys starting in Ham Radio.

I read this book and found it pretty worthless for someone wanting to get a license.  You are better off buying the ARRL tech study guide.  I learned the most from the ARRL General study guide though.....  NQ5F

I know it is not a study guide but I wouldn't advise wasting the money on this if you are unlicensed.  There is actually a pretty good post on AR15.com concerning getting licensed.

I bought the book but I kinda put it down 1/3 of the way through and haven't picked it back up. It might suit others better though.

If you have any background, there's a pretty good free document out there that basically runs over each of the possible questions and answers. As I have a bunch of related skills, this got my wife and I through the exam no problem.

You can also take practice exams online which can help a lot

There are ham clubs in most areas that offer classes to prepare for the exams.  Most instructors offer a lot of information beyond that required to pass the test.
