Suppressor Rebuild

I kick myself now for not spending the extra money on a better suppressor, but I ended up getting a YHM Mite. It of course is something I will have for life and never part with. I've been researching XCaliber as they rebuild suppressors with their baffles. The Youtube videos look good and all that, but has anyone here had any dealings with them? To rebuild my Mite, would be $300. Again, I've seen their videos, but want the opinions of anyone that has actually done this or even had any dealings with this company. I know the Mite is on the low end of "Quiet" as far as suppressors go, but from the videos, it looks like the rebuild would make it a top competitor in .22 suppressor world.

Make sure they use K baffles. They are the best for 22's if suppression is the top priority.

 

I do not trust any manufacturer's numbers. They all test to have their suppressors give the best possible numbers. And what sounds great on a pistol may be miserable on a rifle. I have some very significant lists of suppressors that were tested using the milspec standard by the same company. This ensures all the suppressors are on the same, level playing field. And with that the top 5 on the 22 pistol list are not in the top 5 of the 22 rifle list. But in the end anything is better than the Mite.

 

What is your primary suppressor host? There are things that can be done to certain guns to improve the suppressor's performance. Also, if the Mite is stainless I would look at using some sort of suppressor liquid. I personally use hand sanitizer. It doesn;t last as long as other mediums but it is CHEAP and WORKS great.

First, thank you for your response. I have two Walther P22s' I have used it on,but my primary reason for ever getting one was for the Ruger 10/22. It is my "go to" rifle of choice for Zombies, and all that mess. I know I made a mistake getting the Mite well before my tax stamp came back. I'm leaning toward letting them do the rebuild as they do use K-baffles and again, this is a lifetime investment as it is not something you just sell to someone and part with.

 

Looking at the videos, it seems to be worth it, but not sure how the rebuilds compare to other top of the line cans. I know videos can be manipulated and just want to be cautious with my money. I wish I had done more research to begin with before ever purchasing it, but I did not do that, and I own it. I'm going to make the best of what it is. The 10/22 I use it on has a 16 1/2" barrel. 

 

I was unaware that some cans work better on pistols vs rifles ect. Thats why I love this place, I constantly learn something here.

If you get K baffles it will be the best for use with subsonic ammo. My Form 1 can is all K baffles and it is pretty quiet. It gets even quieter when I add coolant.

 

Ammo makes a huge difference too. Supersonic, bulk ammo is the worst as far as port noise. Even if the bullets are not supersonic all the extra pressure coming out of the port makes for a very loud gun. Subsonic ammo is a lot quieter. The suppressor increases the pressures too and that only increases the port noise.

 

The quietest and most accurate ammo I have shot has been the Winchester Subsonic Hollow Point. It is even quieter that CCI Subsonic.

I've tried the Winchester subsonic ammo and love it. I have a burn barrel in my back yard for tree limbs, leaves, unwanted mail and documents with sensitive private info and it would not get enough oxygen to maintain fire, so a box of that with the can on a Walther P22, I was able to drill some ventilation holes without freaking out the neighbors. Still have a few hundred rounds of it.

I would buy Winchester subs 4-5 bricks at a time. Now I can't find it.

 

I am also pretty lucky to have a couple of firearms that stabilze the Aguila SSS. A 16 twist will not but a 15 twist will and my Contender as well as a early Marlin 880SQ both have 15 twists. The SSS is miserably loud in a semi auto but in a bolt gun they are amazingly quiet. Those are the only two guns I have found that stabilizes it enough to shoot through a suppressor.

 

Something else. Supersonic shorts are still supersonic in a rifle. Winchseter Dynapoints tend to stay subsonic in 16" semi autos but supersonic in bolt guns with barrels 16" and longer. They are very quiet in semi auto pistols but cycle well. Dynapoints are also as accurate as most budget target ammo.

 

If the barrel is 4" or shorter all ammo will remain subsonic. The higher the velocity though the more port noise.

 

The bullet also gives off a fair amount of noise as it flies through the air, even if it is subsonic. If you shoot into the ground at your feet you will see how quiet the suppressor really is. Just make sure not to shoot yourself in the foot.

Ok, I just got my suppressor back from being rebuilt. The machine work on the baffles is very good. I used Winchester subsonic mentioned in this thread and Remington subsonic. Honestly, I really can't tell that much difference using a 10/22. Putting it on a Walther P22, I can tell that it is much better. I wish I had a decibel meter to measure before I sent it off and when I got it back using different ammo and host weapons. All said and done, I think it is good. If and when I can find different brands of subsonic, I will try them all out. The Winchester is the best so far, but I've only used that and Remington. 

 

I'm not disappointed with the rebuild, but I'm honestly on the fence that it is worth the money depending on the host weapon. Again, I can tell a difference with the Walther. The 10/22, not so much.
