Tennessee knife law

All my life I had heard a 4 inch blade was the longest you could carry. In my youthful thinking I always thought that meant a pocket knife/folding knife carried in your pocket, "concealed". I also assumed that you could carry whatever you wanted if it was on your belt, not concealed.

I have since learned the 4 inch blade length is the absolute maximum on blade length with some exemption made for a hunting/camping situation.

Is my thinking now correct? I know there were some changes making there way through the state government, but I never heard there were any significant changes made, so I guess no real changes were made?

I say all this to simply ask, what exactly are the tennessee knife laws? Blade length, does the situation matter (camping, hunting, etc), does it matter if it is on your belt or in your pocket? Any other interesting information I might need to know?

You can carry a maximum of a 4" blade. Fixed or folding, open or concealed. You can't carry switch blades or gravity knives. You can carry any size fixed blade if you are hunting or camping with no issues. That said, Ive never heard of anyone being charged with breaking a knife law without them being charged with something else to, aka the knife charge was an add on to arm3d robbery or something. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just saying I dont see it.

Tapatalk ate my spelling.
