Where to sell trading cards?

Got a bunch or cards from my young years mostly early 90's. My kids show no interest and maybe be enough to get a new toy. There used to be several shops around Nashville, but looks like they all closed or moved. Anyone know any place close to Nashville that will buy cards, or is Ebay my best bet?

No personal experience, but my boss is into this big time. He buys entire collections from Craigslist then piecemeals them out through eBay.

 

If you want to sell them all outright and be done, CL might be the way to go.

 

My understanding is that the `80s and `90s aren't really worth that much though, but I could be wrong, like I said, this ain't my bag.

eBay probably best if you have a bunch worth $5 and up. It pretty much leveled playing field on collectibles. The good: for the most part reflects actual nation wide value. The bad: took away possibility of real steals on local level.

I have a large collection of Nolan Ryan cards from the mid 1970s through the end of his career that includes hundreds of cards. I tried to sell them about a year ago and couldn't even get $100 for the lot even though book value on them was many many times that including on eBay. Cards are darn near impossible to sell anymore. Among the dealers I spoke to, they all said they were only interested in old cards in excellent shape. Newer cards from the mid 1980s on have very little value with collectors because everyone put them in plastic and saved them. Edited September 12, 2013 by East_TN_Patriot

1989 is a great place to sell baseball cards.  Sorry dude, I'm in the same boat.

baseball are cards are virtually worthless right now.  Unless you have a Johnny Bench rookie card or similar they are worth pennies apiece at best.

 

Stash them away for when value in them cycles around again.

This thread has got me wondering about the value of mine again. Need to pick up a price guide. Catalogued everything that had value at the time and made an Excel spread sheet to keep up with price changes. I have a "rolling" total that updates automatically at the bottom of the sheet once I adjust the prices. Used to be into it big time. Have a 4 drawer dresser stuffed with cards. Only one I have anymore probrably of any value is a graded gem mint 10 Tiger Woods rookie card.

Well. This just sucks. Might throw them on CL, hadnt thought of that. See if I can get any bites. Back in the day they were worth ~$1000, but that was at their premium.

unless you have a HOF rookie in mint or near mint condition they are worth next to nothing.  And the ones that are worth something are only worth what someone will pay.

 

I am giving all of my cards to my son.  He can store them for the next thirty years.  I have some old stuff but it is really not worth messing with.

The way my boss tells it is that it is simpler to price all the cards, anything worth <$5 he puts in a box and donates to charity with an itemized price list. He takes the write off.

 

Anything >$5 he puts on eBay for $1 Buy it Now.

 

On occasion he finds a high dollar card, say $50 or better, those he sells off at a decent pace at $20.

 

He buys entire collections and makes his money back, but this is his hardcore hobby. I would be willing to bet that he puts 100+ hours a week into it for ~$5 an hour profit.

 

For a hobby, that isn't bad I suppose, but for a get rich quick scheme, it blows. 

 

 

 

 

Granted, he is also one of those douchebags that is selling bricks of ammo on Gunbroker for $60. He even offered me $40 a brick for some of my stuff to sell it at a profit.

Yep have a bunch of 80's 90's cards. Ain't worth squat. There in the top of a closet with all my comics, lol. :(
