I realize that it is the day of the smart phones and cell phones but just wondering how many folks still have CB Radio's up and operational. I still have mine in my jeep and still use it from time to time to talk to friends. I hope if tshtf that the CB radio's will still operate if cell phones fail.

Just a thought!!!!

I have a brand new Cobra in my office to put in my truck. Being an offroader, and my dad being a truck driver, I've always ran CB's. Many a trip to Missouri has been shortened just by listening to all the conversations on there. Laughed my a$$ many a time listening to them guys argue. Also, helps with wrecks and such that may lie ahead of you. And like you said, in case phones go out they could still work and possibly be helpful......if you know who your having the conversation with that is.

I am just thinking ahead some I guess but just thought they might come in handy. I have had one since the late 70's and did a bunch of off road trail running with Dixie Mud Hog 4X4 club.

I used to drive OTR and have had some pretty nice radio's. On my truck I used my galaxy 66 with a wilson 1000. I drove a flat top pete for some time and used a magnetic on the roof to get a good ground plain. I used to shoot the skip often and still do at home once in a while. I go by "509". I use just a simple Antron at home with an old school Galaxy 99

I still have my 1970's era Midland from when I was a teen and CB's were all the rage. Back then I had a base station set up and I used to use it to talk to friends. Someone gave me a couple boxes of computer parts a few years ago and in the bottom was a newer (than mine) CB radio. I went out and bought a mobile antenna and set it up one evening to show my 9 year old grandson. He was unimpressed.   Of course one reason for that was nobody else was on, and he lost interest in about three minutes. I'm going to keep it around just for SHTF situations.

I have an old 18 WX ST Model Cobra that I have been using for years backed up with a Telex Turner power mic with an old Zenith 75 Watt tube type Linear under the seat but has not used it n a couple years so don't know if it still works or not. Don't have any new stuff but it still talks so never saw a reason to buy new stuff.

I passed the Ham exam early this year. I bought a handset but have yet to do anything with it. In my first test broadcast, I was speaking in to the wrong part so no one could hear me :wall:

I do have a C.B. but I bought it for my mother who has since passed away. Haven't brought myself to sell it yet though she only used it a couple of times. She was big in to the C.B. (which caused some friction in the household during one period).

Ham is a little more likely to be useful since it has fewer restrictions (in certain respects) than C.B. But my mother would tell of some quite impressive contacts from long distances. Of course, not everyone respects those restrictions....

I have talked skip as far away as Alaska back when I had 106 inches of steel whip on back bumper of my old Ramcharger and linear on. I think that is as far as I have talked from front yard. Don't have that antenna any longer and have been looking for a new good quality antenna. Radio Shack quit selling them and Walmart on had low quality ones so still looking for better one than the magnet one I have on jeep now.
