I know. What a pansy. Full-grown (6'3", 210 lbs) dude wants a .410. My in-laws live in central KY and are not really gun people. They are pretty much only getting some guns because I have a bunch, and have gotten their daughter into shooting, too. They make terrible gun buying decisions (Taurus Judge, Taurus tip-up barrel .22) against my advice. I have given up hope of talking sense into them and now just say "oh, cool. Great." whenever they buy something. They barely ever shoot. Pretty much only when I'm up there.

Anyways, he has the idea now that he wants a .410 pump. He's a lefty and liked how my Ithaca Deerslayer ejected down instead of sideways. My mother-in-law wants me to find him one for Christmas. I've seen the Browning BPS in .410, but it's about $600 and way too nice of a gun for him to let rust away in a closet for 30 years. I'd go for an Ithaca, but don't see them in .410.

I'd prefer something with a wood stock for him, but that's not a necessity. Standard capacity is fine.

What do you guys suggest?

Browning doesn't list a 410 BPS on their website. I imagine you are looking at a used gun, as Ithaca and Browning are the only two bottom eject pumps I am aware of being currently produced. I would prefer an Ithaca, but I don't believe they ever produced a pump 410.

Would he consider a 28 gauge?

Ithaca Model 37 starts at 28 guage, might have to settle for that. Frankly, shells would probably be easier to find since the Taurus Judge market has intruded on 410 ammo sales.
