Extractor problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, hoping someone more knowledgeable than me will be able to help out.

I was shooting one of my 1911s today and started getting erratic extraction issues. Out of an eight-round magazine I'd have two or three that would eject either straight up or up and to the rear (two actually hit me squarely between the eyes). The others would eject to the right rear. This was consistent over five or six magazines. The gun's accuracy and function was unaffected. It is an internal extractor and is a higher end 1911 if that makes any difference.

So, does my extractor need to be replaced? Tuned? Any other possible issues anyone can think of?

Thanks in advance for the help.

My RIA is like that too. One thing that I've seen suggested is that the extractor is "clocking" or turning due to the firing pin stop not holding it tight enough.

I installed a new EGW FPS and Wilson extractor and that seemed to help but I also had other problems too and had to send it back for work.
