Console/ under dash carry inTN ? Legal?

Is it legal? I ask because I am a sales rep and some days I am in the car for several hours in between stops,so looking for my options

You can carry a handgun on you or anywhere in your car with an HCP. Without it’s a crime.

You might consider magnets (rare earth) or magnets with velcro that would attach to velcro on a holster.  I use neodymium magnets to mount firearms under tables.   You can buy these magnets with a countersink hole in them to mount with a screw. I cover the magnet first with shrink wrap so it won't damage the slide.

I use a small 'go bag' that I sit in the front passenger seat and toss the should strap over the headrest to prevent it from flying forward in a quick stop.  The bag is setup so that I can reach over and draw the firearm quickly, but is not visible from outside the vehicle.  For those times I need to leave a firearm in my vehicle unattended, I have a small gun safe under one of the seats that locks and will hold a pistol and 2 loaded magazines.  This safe is attached to the vehicle by one of the seat bolts, so it would take somebody a few minutes at least to remove from the car, even if they could locate it in the first place.

Pick up some strapping, connector buckles and cinch buckle, couple of hooks to make your own? Probably only about $20. What's your time worth? ;)

If when driving I feel I need my carry gun at hand, I place my 1911 between  (under) my left thigh and the seat.

I've never had an issue with it not staying put, even doing some pretty aggressive driving maneuvers.

I would say not good, in a wreck it would disappear fast.

In a wreck if your injured, unless its locked up, it might disappear fast.

And like I said only if I feel I need it "at hand" other than that its in a holster.

IIRC, one of the "lessons learned" from the infamous 1986 FBI shootout was to keep your weapon holstered.  Again, IIRC, one of the agents had drawn his wheelgun in anticipation of an engagement, and after the collision between his vehicle and the suspects', the revolver was nowhere to be found.

This is true, but I'm not a cop doing felony stops and chasing suspects.

In a bad area setting at a stop light is more the risk, stuff happens, you put down your money and you take your chances.

Its a chance I'm willing to take under certain circumstance, there a also a backup available if needed.

I've bought a couple of these, before.  In fact, one recently got drafted to be part of a jury-rigged 'sling' for a single shot 20 gauge that doesn't have swivel mounts (and I didn't want to add any.)  Depending on setup, they might serve the purpose just as well, too.

If your vehicle has a door pocket( open plastic area) you might just consider using a paddle holster or other easy reach holster. It at least keeps your pistol out of the way and in easy reach of yourself.

 

When I know I'm going to be in a place that dosen't allow guns ( work, school, etc...) I keep mine locked in a metal safe under a seat. Out of sight, out of mind. Yet i know it will be easy access for when I need mine.
