My first AR build

This is where she sits right now. Have a KAC trigger guard on the way as well. Not sure on the barrel yet, but will have LaRue Rail system on it.

If you can't see, it's a MEGA upper and lower. I've started painted in the "atomic" symbol on the lower. I'm doing MEGA in white like the upper, and the orbits in red with the electrons in white. I don't think i'm going to paint anything else on it except FIRE and SAFE.

Thoughts?

Thanks. I'm VERY new ot this whole EBR thing. I always wanted one, but never could buy one. So I figured i'd build one. Never even broke down an AR before so most of this is a learning experiance. Thankfully these are simple enough a monkey could build one.

What kind of paint did you use?

If you don't want to go the paint route, several manufacturers make products whose sole purpose is to fill in engravings. You can buy lacquer sticks that you pretty much use like a crayon... rub it back and forth over the engraving and it deposits the colored filler into the channels. Wipe away the excess, and let the filler dry. Hard as a rock, and holds up very well to cleaners and solvents during normal cleaning procedures... yet still easily removed if you were to take a heat gun / hair dryer to it for a few minutes, or solvents and a toothbrush (and scrub away).

One such product (many out there, just google "lacquer stick") is this one, which you can get at Brownells:

LACQUER-STIK

They come in other colors, from other companies, besides the ones listed in the link above. This method is probably the most commonly used to fill in engravings, with model paint running a close second. If you go over to the Glock and HK forums, you can see entire threads on people showing off their handy work using both methods.

ETA: I've gone a couple handguns with the sticks, and they turned out really well... and then later removed the filler, when my mood changed. So I can vouch for their ease of use/application as well as their removal. Unfortunately, I don't have any guns with their engravings filled at the moment, but I might have some photos of them lurking on my ftp space. I'll try to look later and see if I can scrounge any up.

Wow, that stuff looks pretty awesome. I'd be worried about botching the paint job myself. I'd love to see some of your results w/ that method.

EDIT: Apparently GlockTalk purged their threads and lost the one that had all of the pics in it. Typical. Site admin is a douche nozzle over there.
