How Do I Navigate State/Local Law?

I recently got my HCP.  The clown who taught it did not address where you can/cannot carry.  He said it changes too often and it is too complicated, and that it was up to us to know the law.  Oh, he was prior law enforcement...

 

I've been here and there on the WWW and I'm having trouble interpreting all the legalize.  Is there a site I can access that has the real deal, in language that the average joe can understand?

 

Sheez...why can't we just use the second amendment?

handgunlaw.us It has an interactive map and lays out all the laws for any state and reciprocity as well. Just click on the state you want info from and there are all the current laws. It is ab the most up to date and updated site i know of.

Two things you may not find at either place is the fact that you may also, with a permit:

 

- carry a long gun in vehicle loaded, but not with one in chamber.

- have or leave loaded firearm in your privately owned vehicle in any public or private parking lot, regardless of signage, as long as it it is not observable. This includes school property. However, this still does not specifically prevent your being fired or expelled for it.
