Fastest route from Nashville to Dayton, TN

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for the fastest, not necessarily the shortest in distance.

Google Maps is giving me to options, both almost exactly the same amount of time and mileage. One is going through the Cookeville/Crossville areas, and the other route is going through McMinville. Is it faster to use secondary roads on those routes, rather that taking the I-24 into the Choo-Choo, then north to Dayton?

Depends on how you drive, if you run a little over the limits, the fastest way is to go 40 over to the rockwood exit then straight down.  I do that run occasionally from downtown nashville to downtown dayton and make it in about 2:15.  Don't go off at crossville cause if you get caught behind anything, you'll be stuck there for a while, and running through chattanooga can also be slow depending on what time it is and if anything is going on around the mountain.

and a side note, if you go this route, be careful on 68 (I think it is) around springfield unless you have a radar detector.  one area the speed drops down to one of those 35mph revenue generating zones for the cops

As a professional, this is exactly the same advice I would give.

Dayton is my hometown. Your directions would definitely be quickest and were the ones I was going to suggest. Although yes you could get off at Crossville head down grand view and come out on the other side of spring city near Evensville where I went to high school. Which in essence would actually put you allot closer to Dayton than going through Rockwood etc. On a side note why in the world are you going to Dayton OP? Especially down town. There is nothing good there. Sent from my mind using ninja telepathy. Edited by tdoccrossvilletn

I am going to pick up something from a fellow TGOer in the morning.

Thanks for the tip, fellas. I wouldn't have considered that route. We'll give that route a shot.
