I'm thinking utilitarian type rifle that will kill squirrels and not mind getting scratched up. Definitely not a pretty as wood though. I have always wanted a nice bolt .22. Any idea on the going price?

Once supplies even out, street price on Ruger stuff is about 25% lower than MSRP. But sometimes that takes a year or more on hot selling stuff, like their 1911, etc.

Whittaker's has a small batch that were in-stock today, but that's a long drive for a bolt action .22.

Price was $242

Whaaaa? Hype over a plastic fantastic bolt .22? What am I missing here? Cricket with a fancy stock? Start talking about one of the nice CZ bolt .22s and I'm all about it, but I don't really see the point for this type of gun.

The Ruget Americans are fine rifles for under $300. My sister-in-law got a brand new .243 for Christmas and I like everything about it except the trigger. Instead of a crisp break, it's got a fair amount of gritty creep before she goes boom. I've felt one other example that was about the same, and a dozen or more others that were just fine. QC issue, I guess.

Sorry for the ramble... I guess my question is, what's the point of this model? It's not going to be a fine tactile delight like the $500 CZ, but it's probably not going to be cheap enough to be a knockaround/beater rifle. Is it just to have a full-size practice gun in .22 to replicate its big brothers? Ruger already makes the best cheap .22 in the world. Is this simply the .22 AR/1911 conversion of the bolt action world?

Well, it has an adjustable trigger. And you can have a 25 round mag hanging down from yer .22LR bolt gun.  ;)

Nice looking rifle but I doubt it will make me trade my Savage in just yet.

Doesn't look too terribly expensive either.  I've been looking for a base rifle for a project (as if I need another).  I like the idea of being able to use the same rotary mags as the 10/22, especially big 30 rounders.

As of day before yesterday Whittakers had 10 of the .22LR versions, but don't know about .22WMR, or whether they were compacts or standards.  I suspect I will get my hands on one sometime down the line just to see what the action is like.

It has three things going for it. Its a ruger ,its a rimfire, it has a nice trigger so I want it.

I'd be interested in one in a magnum version.  Hopefully it won't be like many of the other new products that make you wait about a year before the crazy prices settle out.
