Oh I'm already there. He made me a good deal on it, and I figured if I didn't like it, I could get my money back anyway. First time out, I knew that I'd want to keep doing it. I still gun hunt also, but only when I go away for a hunt. Around here, it's bow only for me and like you said, the shakes are tremendous!

Went back out today and put my 3D wrap around the stand, cleaned the mess and twigs out fro under the stand, and sat up in it watching squirrels be squirrels. Those lil suckers crack me up, especially when one finds the others stash Lmao! I'm sitting up there whispering "Ladies and gentlemen, LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!
Batman, I started to thank you for taking all the chigger bites, but about 8 o'clock, here come the itching! Right there with ya on the cussing! But hey brother, its all good....13 days and we won't care :rock:

Those must have been the chiggers that couldn't find a vacant spot on my body, lol. I'm still scratching a little.

I just cut in my first Ground blind for the Season.

Set up a Mock Scrape a few days ago and found it all dug up this morning :)

Cut some shooting lanes...ready to go.

 

Now to find a few more locations!!

Jumped a group of coyotes while checking the trail cam this afternoon. Even though I like to think they are more scared of me than I of them, it's spooky when they run all around you in waist high brush!

That's cool, but I agree, I'd have goose bumps just knowing they were there. Far off, they don't worry me, but up close, you never know how much they fear what you are going to do to them and what they may do at the last moment. Bust a couple of them opening day too  :up:

Up until last year I'd let a coyote walk in fear of shooting it (bow season that is) and it spooking all the deer. I was in Illinois on a hunt and they asked that we kill as many coyotes as possible (had several places to hunt) so opening day of bow up there I had a dog at 10 yards. Drew back and whack - stuck him between the front shoulders. Sweet I thought until I realized I hit a little far forward, and he sat there spinning in circles letting out the worst possible screaming you could imagine! Finally got a second (kill) shot off after 5 min or so. Felt like a half hour! Thought damn, there goes all the deer in a half mile of me! Sat for another 5 min and the biggest buck I've taken with a bow walked up, stayed about 3 steps away from the coyote, looked at it, stomped the ground, then got center punched with my arrow!

Long in the short, I will never hesitate to shoot a coyote now, bow season or rifle!

That's a pretty cool story, I never thought about the screaming of the coyote scaring the deer off. I just thought, well the bow is quiet, it will be fine. I just worried about shooting one in gun season and the shot scaring the deer off. But it seems the screaming worked out to your advantage though. I don't know how many are around where I hunt right now, but we did get a fox on the trail cam. Those things are beautiful! I'd never really considered hunting foxes, but it would be a nice trophy. Wonder how much a full mount of one of them would run?

I usually run the mouth call and let the other guy shoot, as here they usually are on top of you before you realize it! Another TGO member has come to my farm, although we haven't got one yet ( 2 hunts) my other buddy about 200 yards away had one come in at 60 or so yards last time. Tight spot and couldn't get a shot, but nonetheless one of the 3 of us had some action.

One of the better calls I've bought is from bass pro. It's called the lil skyote and fox pro makes it. $15 or so bucks gets it. Little blue open reed call. Takes a little to get it down, but when your sound like and small animal being murdered your dialed in lol.

Lol, also try a triple reed turkey call. Makes a great wounded dog yelp! Don't tell anyone I told you that though lol. And avoid practicing in the truck, it's loud as hell and you'll be saying "what" all day. Don't ask me how I know

That's a cool bowhunt you had. My grandfather always told me that adult deer will seek out foxes and coyotes if given the chance to drive them off or eradicate them. Don't know if its true, but most of the times I have seen predators from my deer stand I have also seen deer. I popped a bobcat one time with a rifle and then had two deer walk up within just minutes. Last time I saw a fox, I also saw a doe within minutes on the same trail. It may just be coincidence, but there seems to be some sort of relationship there.

Oh, my sympathies on the chiggers! Mean little buggers that spare no mercy and have no shame on WHERE they'll bite ya :( Edited September 19, 2013 by Batman

Had to go get my 6 month scan in Murfreesboro today, so I took a sick day and enjoyed the rest of the day. Ran out to check out my stand, all 50 pounds of corn GONE!  :up:  Ground all tore up even where I hadn't had corn put out. Lots of tracks in and out of the area, no rubs, but I know there are bucks in the area from my friends game cam 100 yards from my stand. Picked up a heavier duty bow hanger at Academy on the way out and put it up, and moved the old one to the other side of the tree for my backpack to hang on. Boys, we are a week away!!!!  :rock:  :rock:  :rock:

I've found a couple of hot trails and had a mock scrape dug up.

I went out and made more scrapes in the area and freshened them up.

Will have to hit them again after the rain and see if there has been any activity.

I have had some of the bucks seem to go nocturnal already? I've had 66 pics over the last few nights from 3-6 am. Not sure what's messing with them...not looking good. Either way, all they gotta do is mess up and walk down the wrong trail at the right time and I will be waiting on them!

If you check your game gams frequently or do not try and neutralize your scent when you do, they could be getting spooked that way.  Plus, bucks, especially mature ones, are pretty wise and they will go nocturnal on you pretty quickly.

The bucks out where I'm hunting are moving 4-7 or 8 am mostly. Some days earlier, some days after sun up. Just hope Saturday is an after sun up, buck moving, kinda day! :)

I've rigged up a remote setup where I don't go check it. It emails me photos as they are taken (pelican case, verizon mifi for Internet, old junk laptop, deep cycle battery and solar trickle charger). I messed up by checking too often a few years ago and learned my lesson! I have had lots of coyotes on cam at the same time the deer had been moving through. I feel like they may be avoiding the yotes?

You are doing the right thing then! I also have a game camera that is hooked up to ATT and sends me text message photos to my phone. Love it!

If you have a healthy predator population that will also cause the deer to react accordingly but it's anyone's guess why they made the switch. Maybe they know they are about to be hunted?

I'm using about 4gb of data on the pictures coming in. I don't do video and only have the cam send pics. It's an 8mp camera, and each photo is roughly 8mb. Roughly 128 photos per gig. Setting the delay is key to keeping in the 250 photo range per month. That's assuming you have lots of activity. Breaking it down, that's 8 photos a day... Hope that helps?

Also, any questions about the setup, don't hesitate to pm me. You will run into an issue with the CradlePoint if you don't have a static ip on the wireless card. And only biz accounts can get the static ip ($500 also) that is unless you are using another program to send out the pics vs removing in to the old laptop and viewing a live stream.
