Thanks for the reminder man. Every time I wake up grumpy over money, bills, whatever bullshit comes to mind, I remind myself I could be deployed again, away from home and family and dealing with God knows what.

Tapatalk ate my spelling.

Yeah, I wouldn't send my worst enemy into the armed forces now, even though I am retired from the Air Force.

I got out last year. It is becoming increasingly political. I wouldn't write off going back in, but anyone going in now needs to do alot of research and know exactly what they are doing. Besides, its a kinder, gentler Marine Corps and military now (as I was warned when I was thinking about going back in)

I used to watch the birds come in loaded with wounded from the Korengal. It was every single day at least one bird came in. Even though it was not my job I made sure I was there to help if they needed it.

I was about 8K away from the valley and got attacked pretty regularly but nothing like those soldiers in the Korengal. Those guys would take a beating almost every single day.

Yep. All the soap bars have rope loops on them now, so you don't drop 'em in the shower :)

I obviously have forgotten some of the crap but I miss it more everyday. I really miss Afghanistan, being there I had dreams and endless possibilities in my future. They were rough times but I would love to live them all over again.

Video showing pvt to me as well. Not sure what it shows, but want to say bless you all that are there dealing with what you have to face. I left Afghanistan in 2005, but there has not been a day go by that I'm not there. You don't get over it, you learn to control it in your everyday life.

Huh, I guess someone there at Campbell got in trouble for sending it in.  It was a damn good vid in terms of seeing what these young guys go through.

Pretty much the vid depicts a coordinated ambush initiated by a mortar attack.  Looks like an 82mm within 50m; the fish eye camera makes it look further, but the way it knocked the leaves off the trees they were standing under shows just how close.  It's then followed by effective machine gun fire coming from the LZ they were overwatching... probably within the 100m range since they were popping claymores.  Several RPGs were fired at their position as well.  Video ends with them calling in a fire mission to keep the enemy locked down until CAS can get on station.

This was a small scout element of what looks to be no more than 6 guys.  With the fire they were taking they could have easily been overrun, and surely that was the intention of the enemy.  That's a bad day.  Now imagine it through the eyes of a teenager.
