Enfield No5 Mk1 Jungle Carbines at AIM Surplus

In case anyone didn't see the discussion in the Long Gun section, AIM Surplus has some Enfield No.5 MK 1 Jungle Carbines for sale. They are going fast, however, so you need to act fast before they are gone. Especially if you want one that is all numbers matching.

I like the idea of owning another milsurps, but why about the claims of wandering zero and all that with the jungle carbines? Anyone ever experience that for theirself?

Everything that I've read has concluded that the "wandering zero" issue was probably made up or highly exaggerated. However, I wouldn't expect one of these to be quite as accurate as that K31 you just picked up. Check out the Surplus Rifle Forum for additional info on these. Hickok45 also made a video of his mint condition Enfield No. 5 MK 1 Jungle Carbine. I wish the ones at AIM Surplus looked as good as his, but if they did, they would be a lot more expensive.

Yes, I am familiar with hickoks video and going market prices for good rifles. What I'm not familiar with is buying from aim. Is the C&R required?

Agree. What a sweet gun.

The freaking surplus ammo is far more accurate in my experience as any Winchester or remington ammo you could buy off the shelf at Walmart.

I think the Swedish Mausers rank right up there with the Swiss rifles.

I guess I'm covered there since I've got both!

I also have both and like both, but the 1905 Swed is my favorite and the most accurate

I have one.

The receiver has a number of lighten cuts to reduce the weight of the carbine.  It was document by the British Army that this did cause a lost of accuracy (so-called wandering zero) as the weapon heated up and the receiver began to flex.  Once the carbine cooled down, the accuracy (zero) would come back.

So what is ready happening is not that the carbine is losing its zero, its groups are opening up - - - sometimes in odd and random fashion.

Can't say that I have ever noticed this while shooting mine.  Then again I'm not shooting a jungle carbine as a rate-of-fire that would heat it up as much as a soldier in combat.

If you fire a nice, slow 3-shot group, it will impact as expected.  If you then fire ten shots quickly to heat it up, another three-shot group will impact differently.  As you continue to fire and the rifle gets hotter, the groups will 'wander'.

For a combat carbine, the problem is not severe.  I've never seen one move more than 2-3moa.  If it really bothers you, remove the front barrel band and upper handguard.  Then the shift in impact is minimized.
