Gun Safe Questions / South Carolina

Hi all,

Looking for a gun safe for rifles, shotguns, etc that also protects other items ( documents, external hard drive, passport, etc). I live in SC. I'd prefer something thicker than 12 GA steel, and yes, I like all of the "goodies" like door organizers, lighting, etc. No idea if gypsum fire board is the way to go, ceramic fiber, or concrete ( think its just too heavy). House is on a crawl space and really don't want to anchor a safe in the garage ( too easily seen- nowhere to really hide it when the garage door goes up).

1) Can anyone tell me if a forum like this exists for South Carolina?

2) I have looked at SO many safes, its all starting to get blurry. Anybody have thoughts/knowledge on the "internet" safe makers / distributors like Patriot Safe, Homeland, Vault Pro? I have seen enough bad info on Sportsman Steel/Pentagon to know to stay far away from them. Patriots look nice, but also look imported. Homeland talks a good game, has 10 gauge steel, but just don't know enough about them ( though they are willing to build a 66" tall safe for only an extra $149). Vault Pro - again, 10 gauge steel, very willing to "deal" to get your business, but know very little about them. Wonder about the warranties from all of these companies - do they back their products as they claim?

I've had the pleasure of speaking with Aaron Parker at Parker Safes, and its too bad he is hundreds of miles away - nice guy, very knowledgeable, and surely someone I'd do business with...if I lived in TN. Have not had the pleasure of speaking with anyone from the Safe House, but from what Ive seen here, I would think the same is true of them.

I would very much like to stay within a $2k budget or less. I have looked, MANY times at Liberty, Browning, Superior and even some of the imports like Big Horn. I have probably over researched this, but I hate the idea of buying a safe that I won't be happy with or worse - dropping $2k for something that is "junk" and won't do the job.

Aaron and I talked about the Superior & Champion Safes, and I like their USA made safes. Problem for Aaron and I is distance the safe would have to be shipped. Anyone have any recommendations for honest, ethical dealers closer to the upstate, Greenville/Spartanburg region of South Carolina, or that ships safes at no extra charge?

Sorry so lengthy. I'm a newbie to your board, just looking for info. Thanks in advance for whatever info you can provide.

Various national forums like ar15.com, opencarry.com, and others have individual state sections
