Wilson county fair?

Last time I went there was a sign saying no weapons. I HATED taking it off with some of the crowd I saw rolling in the gate, but I did. Going tomorrow and will look for the sign before I take it off again.

Concealed means concealed. Any time I'm in doubt I just remind myself that EVERY mass shooting I've heard of has occurred in a "gun free zone".

Took a while to find it.  The Wilson Post, dated 14 Aug 13, had a front page article post titled "Safety First" that detailed the security that they have in place for the fair this year.  I could not find an online link for the article but it basically stated that this year they would be using dogs, that bags or backpacks over 12" were subject to search upon entry and that firearms are not permitted even for those who have a conceal and carry permit.  I think that the shooting they had at the fair last year still weighs somewhat heavily on their minds.  Now the bad guys know that most law abiders are not likely to be armed.  On the same front page of the paper was an article that covered the city council meeting in Mt Juliet that will allow city employees with a concealed carry permit to bring their weapons to work with them.  Not to just have them in their vehicle but to carry them anywhere on city property that they might happen to go.  The city manager had originally proposed that only elected officials and emergency services be allowed to carry.  The city council wasn't having any of that....the vote was 4-1.  YMMV.

FWIW if there isn't a sign that meets the requirements of T.C.A. Â§39-17-1359 you shouldn't be legally charged for carry.  Of course you can still be denied entry or asked to leave if it is discovered you are armed.

I looked and saw no signs at the main entrance earlier in the week. Could have missed it, but carry on if no legal posting

We went Thursday night, kept mine out of sight, no worries.

We did not see any signs.

I'm here now and at entrance it says no weapons allowed except for LEO.
But yeah, concealed is concealed. YMMV. Edited by rugerla1

seems to be a heavier presence of LEO this year. There's one posted at each gate. I don't remember that happening in years past. out of sight out of mind.

Sign on left side of road at main entrance with all the rules sez no guns.

The wilson county fair is one of the best places to be - come on down today and enjoy the last day!

Be sure to see the gallinippers perform by the civil war encampment at 7 and 830 tonite.

This sure is a far cry from the old fairs where they had 22rifles for kids to shoot them little targets. ..I miss THOSE fairs

sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

We just got back home safe & sound, my kid had fun, and that's what matters after all.

If you're heading out there, it is very hot. Edited by vinstang67

I'm not sure 1359 is in effect at the Wilson County Fair Ground, I believe under the law that would fall under the park carry law and since Wilson County hasn't voted to ban carry in their parks.  I'm not even sure how they could legally prevent you from carrying a firearm into the fair if the grounds are covered under the park carry law - with a valid permit of course.

Hmmm interesting and as I know you know 1311 is more exact on sign requirements than 1359, but AFAIK any person(s) having control over a property (public or private) can ask you to leave whether it is posted or not.

Despite it in being in the US and TN constitutions the law and many TN AG rulings have pretty much said you do not have a "right" to carry.

I agree about being able to ask you to leave....  but my understanding is they are using more general trespass laws at that point correct?

If so there is a ton of case law on being asked to leave a public area, while performing legal activities ad most of it doesn't bode well for the government.

I agree too that it wouldn't be under 1359 or 1311 if asked to leave.  I also agree being asked to leave public property because of a legal activity is not good, but I'm sure it happens all the time and unfortunately not much is done about it.

.....and to correct something I just noticed in my previous post, the AG issues "opinions" not "rulings"

We went last week, where you pay to get in
..they have no weapon signs. They also had many police and a portable police station set up. Police were on atv's as well.

The sign with the rules is on the left side of the split driveway. It's not at the ticket gate.

There are other gates to enter with no signs. I seen the one you takin bout. We came in the back way by all the tractors and police unit. At dark when all the young bucks come in is the time to watch yourself. Last year there was a shooting there right near dark. Families in the day teens and thugs at night.

A couple of years back the Tennessee State Guard provided security at the Boy Scout Jamboree at the same fairground. We had gunfire (gang related) at two of the back gates. The whole area is gang turf and extremely dangerous. I  had Duty Officer that night and I was the one that called Lebanon PD to come out and investigate. They seem to accept the gunfire as "business as usual" and didn't seem real upset about it. It is a beautiful little city and the fair is great but I wouldn't want to be unarmed at night there again (TSG can't carry weapons on duty) as it is a high risk area.
