Lube of choice

What lube does everyone use for their folding knives?

What kind of pivot (ball bearing, teflon/phos bronze washers, whatever) do you use the lubes on?

I have Break Free CLP on hand, but it didn't seem to do the job. I got a bottle of lube for bike chains and it's working very well, but curious if there are any favorites among serious knife owners.

I'm not a serious knife owner, I'm a little more laid back, myself.

Nonetheless, most of my knives have the washers. I'm curious to see what the experts say. I've prolly been using the wrong lube on them.

Vaseline ain't a bad choice. Petroleum jelly is basically thick mineral oil, food safe if unscented. Hair dryer heat will thin it, let it flow down into the innards if you're lubing with it assembled.

It's perfect for stopping the Kershaw rattle on the SpeedSafe ones too.

That said, I've also used CLP some, seems to do ok. I don't use any of my folders for eating, and probably wouldn't worry about that little bit of chem even if I did, but that is a consideration I reckon.

I use the one that is on sale; whether it is grease (...pivots and locks...) or a moisture displacing lube (...wipe down blade and bolsters...).   All of them seem to be very good.

Italian Gun Grease is awesome and manufactured in Spring Hill, TN. Oops just noticed this is about knives--not sure now if I should wipe out what I wrote or just leave it as is. Sorry! Edited by wtl

Depends on which knife, on my camp knives that are used for food prep I use a beeswax, on all of my utility knives I use Rem Oil w/teflon.

Although my wife just picked up a couple bottles of Epic Ride White-Lightning bicycle lube, which is a fast-dry silicone based lube for wet riding conditions, initial trial so far has been positive on everything I've used it on so far, but haven't used it long enough to give a full-recomendation yet.

Radio Shack has a precision oiler that works real good. I use it on o-rings frequently. It's cheap and I think it is made by super lube.

Hoppes elite gun oil. Seems to help the spring assist mechanism repel moisture and keeps the blade easy to clean. I also use it for sharpening the blade.

Don't worry , I was going to say KY till I noticed it was about anything but knives or guns.
