6.8SPC or 7.62x39mm for AR-medium caliber

Recommended Posts

what would be a better medium caliber choice for an AR? 6.8x43mmSPC or 7.62x39mm?

which one has better self-defense ammo?

forget the magazine choices and the fact that surplus 7.62 is dirtier than 6.8 or that 7.62 is cheaper than 6.8 or anything else. just ammo

thanks

6.8 and it is not even close. i can only think of 3 loads for x39 and the 154g sfot point is the only viable SD/ hunting load. The 6.8 has a variety of SD/ hunting bullets available. Basically anything you can get .270 in you can get 6.8 in. ballistically the 6.8 is superior as well.

Double-Tap loads 6.8SPC: http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_69

It's not cheap, but then, none of it is yet. For hunting it'd be the best choice, but not for high-volume shooting. SD might be best served by a heavy .223, such as 75gr, etc... which would allow you to practice alot more for the money, and it'll make a BG just as dead.

Ditto. I would prefer 6.8 between those two as well. Though, in reality, it would all hurt.

Purchase what you can actually afford to practice with.

Its stupid to purchase the biggest baddest thing just because its loaded in "pain train." That power is useless if you cant hit efficiently with it.

I'm with Eddie. A heavy .223 would do fine AND you can somewhat cheaply get proficient with it.

You will LOVE the 6.8 Rem. It is the ultimate sleeper. Powerful enough to harvest game. Flat shooting enough to have THUMP downrange. Recoil is miniscule. Accuracy is as good as it gets. It was designed to monumentally improve the AR platform.

Ammo is not cheap, but the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
