I read the book back when it first came out, and I've read it twice since then. Supposedly this movie had the backing or Marcus Luttrell and he is advising on it. Even though Walberg is an antigun liberal, I will probably still go to see this in theaters.

I think he is a good actor, I don't pay for his opinion.

Interesting. I really liked the book. I suspect the movie will be hard to watch.

Walburg doesn't like guns for the same reasons as Dog the bounty hunter... He isn't allowed to own them. He a great actor.

Great book! Read it twice and it's still on my night stand. Pretty amazing what Mr Lutrell went thru.

Except that money paid to support their films and the fame they get from those films also allows them to continue a lifestyle where they can spout their anti-gun nonsense to millions who are dumb enough to be influenced by them simply because they are famous.  So, as their opinions influence a segment of the population who could be influenced to support further reduction of our firearms rights, their opinions are relevant even if we wish they weren't.  Heck, I wouldn't doubt that individual anti-gun, Hollyweird types like Wahlberg, Stallone and so on do more to influence anti-gun opinions in the general public than Obama, Pelosi and Bloomberg combined.

 

This is not to even mention the hypocritical nature of actors who often star in 'action' movies where the use of guns is a major part of the film but then want to push an anti-gun agenda in their 'off screen' lives. 

 

Still, sometimes there are movies that you want to see, anyway.

I think the antigun actors who are seen on the big screen using those guns does more for OUR cause than it does for THEIRS.

 

 

To be honest, before this thread, I had no idea that Marky Mark was antigun. But I can tell you what movies he has been in and what guns he has used in them. I also knew he was a felon and unable to legally own guns.

 

Same in regards to Stallone. 

 

 

 

 

It is similar to how there are all the gun shows on TV now, sure, some of them make gun owners look like morons, but it puts guns on TV and educates the masses.

 

Anytime they can see a gun on TV and not have it immediately linked to crime is a good thing.

Great book, look forward to reading his current release, "Service".

I'll go see the movie for sure, it's got a lot to live up to. I read somewhere that Wahlberg wasn't going for a dead on depiction of Marcus... Seriously, how would a bean town boy accurately portray a Texan anyway, haha.

For those of you looking for some other good reads, I highly recommend Horse Soldiers and Lions of Kandahar.

I could careless about the Marky Mark's actions, what i care about how he acts in this movie, which from my understanding Marcus Luttrell was part of the Advisory group on it. So I'm more than sure that he will act right and not do any stupid Hollywood bullsh1t in it.. Sure he gets paid to act, but he's portraying a Warrior that went to hell while losing friends, brothers, and family. Which also led to more Warriors being killed going in to save some brothers.  More that likely some of the proceeds will end up going to the Navy Seals foundations or to Special Operations Warriors Foundation.

I thought Wahlberg was playing Lt Murphy. And another actor was portraying Marcus from the little bit I caught in the clip it sounds like his voice naming his team members and he names Marcus, but never mentions Murphy.

Just saw the trailer on Youtube this early AM.  The movie is set for release on 12/25/2013, but I am not sure about when and where in the Knoxville area.  I do like to read, somehow I have missed this one.  I guess I will see the movie first, then the read the book.  This way I avoid the disappointment because if I read the book first, I am always disappointed in the movie.

Funny thing is those blank firing movie props are actually registered machine guns. So for him to have them in possession he is in violation of the law unless there is some sort of ruling that exempts him.

 

I will watch the movie because I guarantee it directly contributes to Marcus and he deserves everything he can get.

 

I have seen how bad the Korengal area can be. I would try to help every time a medevac chopper came in and that happened almost every day and sometimes several times each day. I was at the closest medical station to the Korengal valley so all casualties made their first stop at our base which was about 5 miles away. Heck, we got attacked pretty regularly but nothing like the outposts in the Korengal, they got hit daily.

So how is it that Mark can shoot are possess guns while filming? I'm pretty sure at least some of the guns in the movies are real.

Just as a reminder to folks to check with your local library to see if they have it if you don't want to purchase the book. That's what I did in order to actually get some use out of my tax dollars.

This is what Ive come across at several places but below is a quote on the topic of him being in possession of a firearm from another forum.

 

"In MA, if one does not receive a sentence of 24 months or more, in a prison not a jail; no matter the crime, one is not necessarily counted as a felon.

Mark Wahlberg only received a two year sentence which was suspended, plus 90 days confinement (of which he only served 45) in a county jail, for assault, attempted murder, and two counts of contempt of court; because he was only 16 and 17 when the crimes occurred.

He would be disqualified from a CCW in most states, but he is not officially a felon according to the FBI or ATF."
