Question, rant (LEO)

I know this may not be true for all departments, but all the cops I know down in Florida run tags on the computer in their car. My cousin, for example, works in the ghetto and just runs tags all night looking for a hit so he can interdict drug traffickers and get guys who have warrants out on them. He says what the dealers do is have cars registers in the name of a female family member or girlfriend who doesn't have a criminal record.

So it is a matter of profiling, however he says its pretty strict in regard to PC for a stop. They have to commit a moving violation, have an expired registration or warrants out on the person it's registered to.

I worked on a narcotics team for a couple of years, and almost all of the arrests we had involving large quantities of drugs were in vehicles owned by someone other than the suspect. Driving a girlfriends car or a rental is a popular choice. Oddly enough, the cars moving the "big" quantities are usually very normal looking and move during the day. Running tags is pretty commonplace. For now, TN LEOs don't need any reason to run a tag...the liberals are doing their best to change it though. If we want a status check of a tag on a stop we have to do it ourselves or ask the dispatcher; its not automatically checked.

To the original poster...if you're vehicle is that conspicuous, the officers *should* remember it (depending on the size of the department). Like someone already said, get the officers info, reason, time and date of the stop. In order to be harassment, it needs to be the same officer doing it. Not all officers are crooked or give a crap about the petty stuff.

The best car I've had so far with cops has been my silver 03 Corvette Z06. Cops never pay it any attention, they just assume it's some old guy. The times I've been pulled over for doing something stupid they usually ask me whose car it is. :) Then we usually BS a little and they let me go.

It really depends on the department, because of the extreme cost involved some departments have moved away from the computers, even though grants cover most of the cost. They are also a huge distraction to driving. I would venture to say there are less departments using in the car computers than there was 5 years ago. Edited by Patton

If you want a car the is invisible to LE get a Crown Victoria of 1999 and later. And make sure it isn't white and that the grill is blacked out. I owned one and never got pulled over in it. My son now has it and drives it briskly but never gets pulled over. He has a clean haircut because he is in the military so I assume most LE think he is a fellow LE. I know they would wave at me as we went the opposite direction even if I was going above the speed limit.

I drive an 08 350z white nismo edition in red bank TN (the cops here get a bad rap) my best friend drives a black 350z and was at a gas station in red bank and a cop came up to her and asked "where's your friend in the white z?"

I've never been pulled over but evidently the cops here know my car. I found it funny. My car is one of 1600 made.
So either have a unique car (as the other guy mentioned having a vette) or have a very non descript car and you will be ok lol.

I appreciate everyone's input. That sheds some light on the situation. Very helpful.

I do stop completely. I drive a standard and let the car roll backwards a bit after I stop completely. I always have. I'm not complaining about getting pulled over for something I did. I'm complaining because I know for a fact I am not doing what they are accusing. I am OCD about this kind of stuff.

Thank you all for responding.

Anytime you think things are not going like they are suppposed to be,  just tell the Trooper , Officer , or Deputy to get their supervisor out to the scene. When someone dont agree with me I even offer to get my supervisor out there . I dont make up stuff nor stop people for how old their car is nor what color it is and so forth. Bottom line is that if things seem to be going down hill for you on a stop , just cooperate and ask for a supervisor . If this still doesnt help , then call 911 and tell them  and go from there.

Thank you. This sounds like very sound advice.

Thank you also for taking pride in your profession and following the law you are charged with enforcing.

I had an old friend that was LE and he told me that there was never a need for a cop to be crooked or break the law, the criminals will get caught in due time and there are enough true bad guys that he didn't have to make one out of everyone he came in contact with. Edited by 101

They know you and your car from the (now defunct) safety cameras. Just kidding.... or am I? :)

And Red Bank PD does get an overall bad rep from a few misdeeds a couple of years ago.

OK. Here's the question. When a LEO runs your plates.....can they not see that you have a CDL, carry permit, armed guard license, any outstanding tickets or warrants? Do they have to actually run your drivers license number to find out all that stuff?

I'm so tired of getting pulled over for frivolous crap like california stops, being told I was speeding when I was not, or some other made up crap. Just because I drive a twenty five year old hoop-dee that looks like a crackhead's car doesn't mean they need to fish for something that is nonexistent just to do nothing but waste my time and give me a warning.

I get pulled over and or followed at least 3-4 times a month on my way to or from work and my employer and wife are getting tired of my getting pulled over excuse. Make a freaking note on my plates or something and leave me alone! I'm going to get a set of cameras and start recording this crap so I can make bank at some point. This is getting ridiculous.

I barely like cops to begin with and y'all aren't helping to improve that at all. Follow the law and stop pulling violations out of your ass please.

Thank you. (To the good cop out there, please ignore this and please police your coworkers to keep your profession out of the mud.)

If you're getting pulled over that much, and since you don't seem to like cops, maybe a change in what you are doing would cause the cops to stop stopping you? Just a suggestion my friend!
