Are old time dumb cell phones available anymore?

I'm so tired of paying 150. Month on a mini computer. Surly some of us carry non data, non text phones in our pockets. What phone and what plan and what service? I'm tired of this rat race.!!!

Virgin Mobile still does feature phones (dumb phones) with no contract. I think the phones start at $11 and plans start at $20. I don't know what the plan comes with, but it is available.

I have one with Verizon. They try to sale me a new phone every month or so to which I say NO.

I just got a new dumb phone from US Cellular. Don't know what the plan is because it is part of a family plan.

Tracfone can be a God send. I would suggest Straight Talk at Wal-Mart though for 45 a month unlimited everything on a smart phone. Back to Tracfone though, you can get a dumb phone for 10-20 and then buy a 1 year service card (comes with 400 minutes) for 99 bucks, a doubler airtime card (buy the lifetime one to get double minutes for the life of the phone) for 20 bucks, and then finally you start buying minutes. I know that sounds like a lot but after you are set up, about 140 bucks, you should be good to go with 400 minutes. Minutes roll over from month to month as long as you keep service days on the phone. Also the minutes run, if you buy in bulk, 200 dollars for 1500 minutes (3000 if you have a doubler). These can also do basic texting and cost 0.3 minutes per text.

I'm on my 2nd year with a Tracfone dumb phone.  Best deal I've found for cellular service.  Total cost $215 so far, and I have service until next June.

I got a Tracfone in March.  It's so dumb it doesn't even have a camera on it.  Depending on what your needs are it could work out great for you.  It worked for me because I get a free land line with my cable so that is what I use when I need to talk on the phone.  No cell phone gets reception where I work and Tracfone stops getting reception just a couple of miles from my house, therefore there is not a whole lot of time that I can use a cell phone anyway.  Before I fired Verizon and my smart phone I had 4 straight months of using less than 20 minutes per month.  The phone cost me $10 and included a house and car charger, a case and a headset.  60 minutes of airtime is $20 and they double your minutes when you activate it so I actually get 120 minutes for $20, which will last me in excess of 3 months.  It's not for everybody but if you just want a simple phone for emergencies and whatnot and you don't care about texting (I can if I have to it's just hard on this phone), data and whatnot it may be great for you.  POI: I budget $80 a year for my cell phone usage and if I loose or break my phone I'm out $10.

Yeah if you want a "dumb" phone go prepaid. Even with nothing special the mainstream carriers are gonna charge $70 or $80 a month for service. I have no experience with the straight talk like someone already mentioned, but I have a few close friends who use it and think its awesome. Edited August 19, 2013 by CCPT

If you want to go really dumb, check out the motofone f3. Designed for the 3rd world so low on features but incredible battery life. I bought one when I visited England (can't beat £10) but it's only dual band so doesn't work here. There are US compatible versions out there.
