I have a 94AE that I got in the early or mid 90's and I am wondering how I can tell when it was made.

I can't even find the 94AE on the winchester gun site. I find the 94 but no 94AE

"AE" means Angled Ejection which became standard in 1982. The "AE" was made until 1997.

You can tell when it was made by the SN.

Thanks.

How? Is part of the SN a datecode?

FWI, it does not have a safety.

They, like most others, only make a certain range of serial numbers in a given year so it's easy to take the serial number and check what year(s) they made which range.

Most of the pre-cross bolt safety guns don't have a safety.

Thanks again. I found an online database that only went up to '82, and mine is above that, 540XXXX.

I know folks like pics, so here you go:

1989 would be the best estimate of when it was made.

In 1992 they went to the cross-bolt safety.
