Anyone have experience with an AR 7.62x39?  I have just finished my version of one. It is:

Rguns A1 upper with BCg and m4 handguards

ES Solutions 16 " barrel

Ati Lower

NcStar  6x32 sniper scope

I have 2 ASC 10 round mags

Waiting on 30 round mag

I hope to test fire it soon , Have heard and read about feed problems and light strikes on primers

Any thing else anyone has heard of that may be an issue.

The only problem I've heard about is the straight mag well in the AR causing feed problems. That round needs a pretty good curve to feed properly. I don't see why you would have light strikes if the bolt locks up. The hammer in an AR will give it a good enough whack.

If you ever compared the trigger spring and hammer of an AK to an AR you will understand why you get light strikes with x39 ammo in the AR platform. 7.62x39 ammo primers can be fairly hard. You tend to have the same issues when you use some of the competition or aftermarket AK trigger springs.
Feeding issues are due to mags not having the constant curve but rather the straight mag with a bend in the middle like Mike was saying. This is why they made the .300 blackout.
Otherwise it's like converting a Ferrari to run on diesel or putting murders and a lift kit on a corvette. ;)

MGI makes a modified mag well for their AR lower that let's you use AK mags. I think that is the way to go for one of these.

thanks for the input. I have heard that the Mags by ASC are the best for this application and have a 30 round on order but it is still 6-8 weeks out on order. In the mean time i am going to try to use 10 rounders. I hope to use it for hog and deer hunting this fall if it runs good

Took the ar out for function testing. Went bang everytime trigger pullled. Shot two 10 mags. Did have a couple rounds not feed properly from the mag. Looked like the bolt did not strip the round out completely or the front of the round caught on the mag or feed ramp. Will have to do more testing. Accuracy not been tested yet, Scope mount kept loosening up plus came a rain storm just as i got to the shooting area. . will work on these little problems But do think i will enjoy this lil weapon.

Yeah that is the typical complaint. This is the mag well that MGI makes that let's you use standard AK mags. https://www.mgi-military.com/store/index.php?product_id=28&type=&category=9 .

Of course you have to get the modular trigger pack you that is another $99 on top of the $275 for the mag well. You might be able to find a used set up on gunbroker if you really like the platform but can't get your setup to run.

Good luck!
