I'm a new gun owner and I went with the Glock 19. Now I just need to find a decent holster. I'm basically planning on using it when I go to the range, or if I just feel like it (probably not too often). I'm trying to stay under $40. I'd appreciate some recommendations on brands and type of holsters.

Save yourself the drawer full of holsters that is inevitable on this quest and go straight for a Raven Phantom. It's more than $40 but so is buying a bunch that don't quite work like you want. It shines as an owb holster but can be used iwb.

You'll be glad you did... Edited by daveW

My two favorite OWB holsters are the Galco Concealable which runs from 80-100 bucks and believe it or not, the Glock Sport Combat holster which is less than $20.

If OWB will work for you then pick up a $12 Glock Sport Combat holster. I have/had the drawer full of holsters. I use the Sport Combat for just about ever situation. I even pocket carry with one.

In your price range, Fobus paddle.

The best for me are Kramer, Kramer and Kramer. Since I don't carry all day, every day anymore, Fobus is great to slip on and go at a moment. It is not any sort of a retention holster, keep it concealed under a garmet. Great range holster. Edited by jaysouth

Thanks for the advice that gives me a place to start looking.

galco, galco.  they hold up the best day after day of heavy use on the job.   i know after many mango seasons of carrying a gun on and off duty the galco brand is first for me.  i have other brands that are second and i stay away from plastic type holsters.  you buy cheap, you get cheap.

I have a kydex paddle for OWB. Can't hardly beat the Safariland ALS, IMHO. It has positive retention with a button you press with your thumb to release the gun. http://www.amazon.com/Safariland-Concealment-Paddle-Holster-Finish/dp/B00269ZVGG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2XOGQ0RX7FXRX&coliid=I3MEZR3XX8WFOV&psc=1

For concealed carry, I have been extremely happy with this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GUYV1A/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The only thing I have considered changing is adding smaller kydex belt clips, but the supplied steel clips work like they should. Edited by Batman

I bought a Crossbreed Super Tuck that is molded for my Crimson Trace Lasergaurd, but I find myself using the Uncle Mikes $15 holster during the summer months.

I went to the fairgrounds flee market where I found a holster vendor that had good prices. I went back sunday evening and got a belt holster and a shoulder holster for half price for each of my guns.

+1 for the Raven Concealment Systems Phantom.  I've been using one for my Glock 19 since early 2008.  Don't forget the mag pouch for a spare magazine.

Also, don't forget to get a real gun belt.  Here's a great one at a great price:

Follow the fitting instructions to the letter, and get the polymer-lined model.

For OWB, I use Blackhawk Serpa and for IWB more than $40, I have the crossbreed.

Uh, you do know that a Serpa holster is about as dangerous as a black mamba, Bigfoot and a honey badger, don't you?

Those ALS are unbelievable holsters. It's everything the Serpa should have been.

I love Raven (RCS) holsters. The Glock 19 Phantom is now on the quick ship list. For a little less pricey of a holster you could look into a Lead Farmer http://leadfarmerinc.com/

I personally like the RCS holsters better. I also have a Comptac infidel for my 239 that I carry with almost daily. I'd recommend them as well.

You guys realize the op is looking for a range holster right? The glock holster for under $20 is about as perfect as it gets for his needs.

Yeah, but how many holsters do have sitting in a junk drawer, collecting dust?  The Raven will work very well as a range holster, and if the OP ever wants to carry, he'll already have one of the best holsters available.  Seems like win-win to me.

I agree. I ordered a "Quick Ship" raven concealment for my glock 29 and mag holster last night.

If price is an issue just buy a Fobus or the Glock brand, but if you want a really good holster, then you're gonna need to spend a little more.

Your right, I sold my leather owb, Don Hume, shoulder rig, picket holsters, kydex Desantis, Kholster and my Crossbread after discovering the $12 Sport Combat holster.

The Sport Combat holster is about as it gets at any price. Edited by Patton

I love my defense concealment kydex holster, but the Glock holster is just as good and for a lot less.
