As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently,I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and
charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that

seniors over age 55 ...get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. (But you

need to ASK for your discount.)

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of

restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of

offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually

surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young

age of 50.
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

From my own experience:

 

I asked our local IHOP about a 10% discount and was told they only discount the items from the senior menu.

 

McDonald's senior coffee is a small that is usually less than 50 cents.

 

Sport Clips also gives a senior discount to people 55 and over.

Most of you probably aren't familar with Bob Evan's restaurants but I've known them my whole life including the Bob himself.  Anyway, my sister used to laugh when I started orfering off the "senior menu" but not any more (don't know why that would be???) ;)  I've gotten in th habit of asking these days although I still don't do it every time; even when I know I qualify...makes me feel younger. :)

 

About a month ago, my sister got a call from my brother-in law (her husband) that "her brother had been taken to the hospital"...she immediately started packing and making arrangements to get to Nashville (they live in Ohio) because she assumed it was me!  Instead, it was my brother (younger by 10 years) who was in the hospital with, essentially, a panic attack (he hasn't been handling my Mother's passing very well; she passed in mid-May).  When your sister starts assuming it's "you" that's in the hospital itls just another sign of age I guess.

I dont know that family. But I have been eating at Bob Evans as long as I can remember. Every time I go to Pa, I eat in Bob Evans at least once. Either in York, Harrisburg or New Cumberland restaurants. Love that place.

This is one of those things that irritates the hell out of me.  IF (please note the if here) you are one of the old farts that starts a war with the 18 year old behind the counter because they didn't ring up your senior coffee correctly please realize that there are people behind you who have to get to work on time.  At least 2-3 times a week there is some jerk who didn't get their senior discount that has to hold up the line because they didn't ask for it to begin with.  Remember many of us in line behind you have to get to work on time.  

 

Again my side rant is only directed to those who believe that senior discounts are automatic and then hold up the line just on the principal.   It's not directed at anyone who takes advantage of it without disrupting others commute to work.

Was feeling pert spry till I was reminded of my relative decrepitude by completely dislocating my elbow back in June (again, already compromised component). Thanks to the Medicare you guys are buying for me, looks like I can afford to finally have it fixed!

 

And yeah, you're right about needing to change the digs, really need to get a round tuit. But the chances of finding dead bodies are so much better here in the urb, hate to give that up and all. ;)
