As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently,I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and
charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that

seniors over age 55 ...get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. (But you

need to ASK for your discount.)

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of

restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of

offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually

surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young

age of 50.
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for FREE.

YOU must ASK for your discount !

From my own experience:

I asked our local IHOP about a 10% discount and was told they only discount the items from the senior menu.

McDonald's senior coffee is a small that is usually less than 50 cents.

Sport Clips also gives a senior discount to people 55 and over.

Most of you probably aren't familar with Bob Evan's restaurants but I've known them my whole life including the Bob himself.  Anyway, my sister used to laugh when I started orfering off the "senior menu" but not any more (don't know why that would be???) ;)  I've gotten in th habit of asking these days although I still don't do it every time; even when I know I qualify...makes me feel younger. :)

About a month ago, my sister got a call from my brother-in law (her husband) that "her brother had been taken to the hospital"...she immediately started packing and making arrangements to get to Nashville (they live in Ohio) because she assumed it was me!  Instead, it was my brother (younger by 10 years) who was in the hospital with, essentially, a panic attack (he hasn't been handling my Mother's passing very well; she passed in mid-May).  When your sister starts assuming it's "you" that's in the hospital itls just another sign of age I guess.

I've been noticing that more and more...just lost a friend a couple of days ago, younger than I am, who had retired from Metro Nashville PD just a couple of years ago...he had just married off his daughter this past Saturday.

There is a quote I've been thinking about more and more....

"The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present." - origin uncertain

I dont know that family. But I have been eating at Bob Evans as long as I can remember. Every time I go to Pa, I eat in Bob Evans at least once. Either in York, Harrisburg or New Cumberland restaurants. Love that place.

There is one (that I know of) in Tennessee; it's on Music Vally Drive near the Opryland Hotel...I go there evey now and then as it reminds me of "home". :)

I didn't realize they had mostly all gone out of biz in TN, used to be all over the place.

Just checked on site, that one in Nashville, one in Memphis, one in Johnson City. May be about it, can't check whole state at once.

I’ll ask this here since all you old people are here; I keep forgetting to check this out. I remember a few years back Tennessee had a vote that property taxes could be frozen for old folks; it passed. So I assume I have to apply somewhere for that?

Yes. With your county trustee/clerk.

It also applies to certain disabled veterans.

I'm not old at all.  My birthdate(1955) seems to be in error somehow though, and when I look at all my high school friends on Facebook, I see that all them have gotten old old, lol.

I am the same way, even at only 50 I see my old friends on FB and some of them I think "I dated THAT, glad we didnt get married, look what I would have been stuck with". Considering the following, I feel they got the short end of the stick. (Which is probably exactly what they are thinking, pun intended)

This is one of those things that irritates the hell out of me.  IF (please note the if here) you are one of the old farts that starts a war with the 18 year old behind the counter because they didn't ring up your senior coffee correctly please realize that there are people behind you who have to get to work on time.  At least 2-3 times a week there is some jerk who didn't get their senior discount that has to hold up the line because they didn't ask for it to begin with.  Remember many of us in line behind you have to get to work on time.

Again my side rant is only directed to those who believe that senior discounts are automatic and then hold up the line just on the principal.   It's not directed at anyone who takes advantage of it without disrupting others commute to work.

You like to joke but I hope I'm as active as you are when I'm your age........95 is it?

Now, if you'll just ditch the apartment and buy some land you'd have even more to keep you busy. Plus, I will have a place to shoot when I come visit.

105. It's not the age, it's the mileage. ;)

Was feeling pert spry till I was reminded of my relative decrepitude by completely dislocating my elbow back in June (again, already compromised component). Thanks to the Medicare you guys are buying for me, looks like I can afford to finally have it fixed!

And yeah, you're right about needing to change the digs, really need to get a round tuit. But the chances of finding dead bodies are so much better here in the urb, hate to give that up and all. ;)

Great info Ted, thanks. While I'm not quite old enough to take advantage of all of those discounts, I'm willing to offer one myself. I'm the owner of Street Corner News, a convenience store located in the food court of the Cool Springs Galleria mall, in Franklin TN. Come on in and mention you are a TGO member, no matter how old (or young) you are, and have a free coffee or soft drink on me. If you come in, ask for Jack, I would love to meet you. If I'm not there, my employees may think you are crazy, lol. Just tell them "Emma's Grandpa" sent you and they will lower their weapons... :surrender:
