ankle holster

i just bought an ankle holster for my Glock 27...does anyone have anything good or bad to say for this. i carry a 23 on the belt in a bianchi accu lock(awesome, i have 3 and love them) but i have found it somewhat slow to get out but great to conceal. any thought?

Ankle carry isn't optimum for a BUG. Just not readily accessible for quick deployment of the firearm. Ankle carry is better suited for deep cover or for carrying a backup to your backup. Also good for your "plant" weapon if you shoot an unarmed person and need to arm them up real quick.

IMO, ankle carry only beats not having a gun on you at all.

Not fast access, difficult (at best) from seated or driving, and precludes drawing while moving. It can also make you walk funny for a while, and can be a problem if you need to run.

But again, it's better than leaving the pistol at home.

I only carried a PPK/S on the ankle, back when you could buy the "ankle Sock By bianche. I could carry my 27 on my ankle but, don't like that much weight on the leg. For me it was awkward.

+ All cops used ankle holsters for a long time. If a BG saw the holster he knew you were the man.

A bug for me is good on the weakside cross draw inside pants...

Carrying in an ankle holster is a significant compromise.

If you're going to ankle carry, having a good holster is absolutely essential for both comfort and security. A cheapo is probably a waste of money.

It takes awhile to get used to and you've got to practice drawing out of it.

How useful the ankle carry gun will be depends very much on the situation. It isn't much use if you're standing and facing a bad guy. However, if you're seated (like in a car or at a table) then drawing from the ankle can be done discreetly.

I really favor a reliable, lightweight revolver.

I was also thinking about getting an ankle holster for my PT111 to use as my BUG as I carry an XD9 Service in an OWB hume holster.

i've got a smith model 36 but i dont want to ruin in! it was my grandfather's gun. so far the 27 seems ok...but time will tell

A Glock 27 is on the upper limits of what I can comfortably ankle carry. A good quality holster is a big plus to all day carry on the ankle. I reccommend Galco. They aren't cheap, but if you want to be comfortable for several hours carry, spend the bucks. You won't be sorry.

OK...I'll say it. I don't like ankle carry. And yes I have tried it. I know one - one - professional guy who works serious undercover and packs a PSP on his ankle. Way too heavy for me, although it's a fantastic weapon for IWB.

For me, even lightweight handguns are still too heavy for comfortable ankle carry. It will slow you down by 50% if you need to run. It's also a terrible place to grab in case of emergency. Strictly an "as needed" solution to me.

It's actually another name for the P7 - the one with the European magazine release. When they first came out, in the 70s it was introduced as a police gun - Polizei Selbstlade Pistole (police self-loading pistol) or PSP.
