How many rounds through it? The 22A or 22S is notorious for needing break in time and possibly some feed ramp polish work. Some say they are ammo picky as well. Mine hated CCI stuff when it was new. I have not tried any since then.

i bought it used with apprx 1500 through it, i have put about 500 through it useing reminton yellow jackets. i havent really tried different ammo but shooting that same box in my other .22 shoots fine...so i'm really thinking its the gun. i dont think it is a ramp issue because it feeds fine...just click...no bang

I would try a different ammo. 22 ammo may work just fine in one gun, and barely function in another. Could be that the yellow jacket just has harder primers than most.

You could also try replacing the firing pin spring.

The rounds that dont fire...can you put them back in the pistol and get them to cook off on a second try? Do you see an indention from the firing pin?

yea, i can see where the pin has hit it. i may just try some different ammo and if that doesnt work....i could always throw it at the target:)

Call S&W Customer Service at 800-331-0852 and have a conversation with them about your problem. Since you bought it used it may not be under warranty, but these people just tend to do some pretty impressive things to take care of customers.

You can see what they tell you they think the problem is; what it would cost for them to repair it (if anything), and go from there.

If it chambers fine I doubt it is the recoil guide, or recoil spring.

Did you look at the rim of the case to see if it looked like a light strike?

I agree with the others, call Smith & Wesson first.

I did a search, and a few other people have had similar occurrences.

And if you do figure it out let us know the cause, and how it was fixed.

well, i went out and bought some CCI mini-mag and it shot fine, no dead ones. so, maybe that other ammo is bad, but that doesnt explane why it fired in the browning .22 fine. i guess this gun just likes cci
