Personally I dont think the rules are too stringent. Its a private business, if you cant meet the code, go somewhere else. And of course Trayvon Martin comes into play. "In light of hoodies and TM" says a patron. Yes, thats exactly the reason, the owner doesnt want a thug like Trayvon Martin.

I think they should have stuck to their guns, so to speak. "Following the Yelp posting, the sign at the restaurant that provided the dress code has reportedly been taken down."  Keep the dress code.  You may gain a lot more patrons, desirable ones at that, than you lose.

The dress code is no different than a legally posted business. It is their choice to prohibit guns, loitering, solicitation, smoking, requiring shoes, whatever they choose because it is THEIR choice as the business owner. In my younger days, bars or clubs had a dress code saying no hats or men must wear collared shirts ect. This is an example of a likely educated thug, or at least someone that has the ability to somewhat write an educated sounding letter.

Sadly they, and I know people like this, think that just because someone (individual or business) requires a certain dress code, prohibits solicitation, or even legally posts against firearms that is ok to challenge them on it. The groups that believe they are entitled are killing the country.

Hopefully more places will catch on, normally people dressed like that don't spend much money anyways.

+1 When I was clubbing, if a bar said tuck your shirt in, we did it, or left. Never really cared, there were plenty of bars. We didn't think the club should bow down to us like some people do these days.

Most bars I have been to have a dress code. Some are simple, no baggy clothes, pull up your pants. Some are more complex, your shirt has to have a collar. Some require a suit.

I strongly believe in private property rights. If a property/business owner doesn't want hoodies worn in their business or anywhere on their property they have the right to tell the person to immediatly leave their property, if they don't comply THEN they can have the person charged with tresspassing but they should tell the person verbally to leave first unless they have their property/land clearly marked "No Tresspassing" period. Same as guns, if they don't want guns on their property they can tell you to leave for any reason they want to, they just can't have you arrested first, only if you refuse to leave.

I think the dress code is just fine.  As others have wisely opined.  If ya dont like the dress code; dont go in and quit whining and implying that everything is racist and the deck is stacked against you because ya wear your ball cap backwards, a hoodie that is 4 sizes too large, a 4xl tee shirt and your dungarees pulled down to the crack of your azz.  I dont happen to like that style of dress myself, but that's just me.

 

Remember, stereotypes are "stereotypical" because they typically represent a sizable population who exhibit those particular "stereotypical" behaviors or characteristics.. ..
