It's a band. I've actually heard of them but couldn't tell you any of their songs. But I'm always looking for good alternatives to the travesty that is the top-40 music industry, so maybe I'll check them out.

Well, he answered your question.. its a band. I listened to them when they were first making the big scene back in 04 or so. I really liked them. Haven't heard much of anything from them in a while.

when I read this title I thought Mars bought a Volta(whatever that is) and I was hopeful to see it or read about it.

They're a band that is like Rush, Tool, The Misfits, and The Gipsy Kings all rolled into a ball. I just listened to their "Frances the Mute" album, and it's insane. I've never heard anything like it before, it's definitely different, and I really like it so far.

Well, I did have my own plesiosaur to swim with.

Actually, I think some of their music is really good and about all of it I've heard is tolerable.

If you could teleport them in time to the late 60's they would fit in with psychedelic rock bands like Fever Tree. "Everything old is new again."

They're good. Not as good as QOTSA, but good.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club FTW!

And just for a point of reference, I personally think The Who are the greatest tradtitional rock band ever.

MV is cool.

Ok, so who here has ever heard of Dream Theater? They've ben around since the early 80's. You have to forgive the singer, but the rest of the band is awesome.

Here's one of my favorite insturmentals of theirs. This is like 1991 or 1992 I think:

Probably the best Floyd cover ever:

And here's the drumer, Mike Portnoy with his side project Yellow Matter Custard, a Beatles tribute band. See Matt Bissonette (sp?) who plays bass with Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert (of Mr. Big Fame) on guitar, and Neal Morse. Absolutely great cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps:

It's all about the Swedish metal.

I'm down with the prog rock, but when we start talking about King Crimson and Tangerine Dream I'm going to leave.
