Picked this up last night, shot it today. If it weren't for ammo cost this would be my new favorite rifle. Upgraded fiberglass stock with a nice Leupold to top it off.

Huh. I woke up this morning with not a clue that I needed an M1A SOCOM 16. I saw this post a couple hours ago, watched a bunch of videos telling me what this rifle is all about and now I'm looking around my for things to sell.

It kind of hit me the same way. I really want a juggernaut stock but no may i'm spending that much on a stock.

That's one i've wanted for a long time, if I didn't care about water and electricty right now I would definatly buy one and probably pay more for all the ammo I would want to shoot. It's a good all around weapon, defense, offense, and kill your food with it.

Ive wanted one bad for months now, but Ive always had an intrest in them. The only difference is I want one with a wood stock and 22.5" barrel.

That's just your standard M1A isn't it, or do they have a longer barrell?

You are correct that is the standard. To me it most closely resembles the original m14 design. Springfield makes several model. In full size (22.5" barrel) they have standards in fiberglass and wood stocks. They have loaded and National Match models, with some extra goodies. And they have m21's which is a long distance setup. Then they have scout models which is an 18.5" barrel, and the smallest ones which is the Socom 16 as seen here, and the Socom 2 that adds a quad rail.

You can see all models here, and they get them all in with some regularity.

Huh. Very cool.
Are those prices what I can expect to see when they're sold retail? I saw one on Armslist for $2k and thought it wouldn't be a likely purchase for me. But $1600 is in the realm of possibility. (I'll just have to bump it ahead of several other potential purchases. :) )

That is cheaper than a lot of places, but that's not fire sale pricing. $1500-$1600 should be average depending on what model you like. I've given serious consideration to a plain jane fiberglass stocked standard as they are a couple hundred cheaper than the wood stocked at $1350. But at this point I don't have enough money for either, so oh well lol.

Saw it in person today, sweet rifle for sure. Looks like my Mini 14 Tactical after diet of 'roids.

And does it ever BARK!  My 5.56 AR pistol was not the loudest thing on the range today.

Maybe not but I still enjoyed shooting an ar pistol for the first time. Thanks again OS

Some kind of rock and roll CQB monster but able to reach out there rifle. Sometimes does not get the credit it deserves but....definitely a "Zombie" killer. Get some more mags while you still can.

Looks good!

An M1a or M14 is on my wish list. I'm with spots, however, in that I prefer wood. I guess I'll have to pretend my mini14 is one for now.
