I bought the  Humminbird 597ci HD DI Combo  So....I guess I better be buying me another freezer to put all the crappie in over the winter. :hat:

Seriously though....has anyone got one of these?  if'n so, how do you like it?  Or any Down Imaging for that matter.....

I have down imagining and found it to be useless. I have a humminbird 570 DI and after fishing with a lowrance elite 7 up front, down imaging does not matter. All you need is a solid sonar unit..... Or a good side imagining combo :)

I fish out of a kayak to every now and again around Murfreesboro in the stones and dont find much of a need for a fish finder. If you buy a cheaper model it's good for showing depth and contour. I had a 100 dollar unit up front on my bass boat and never realized what I was missing until the elite7.

Down and Side imaging is where it's at. Hard to imaging fishing before it. It's much easier to find the fish when it's tough as you can see them school on ledges or drops. Only advice: read the Manual 10 times, then go to known drops or ledges and set your graph to red/yellow and learn what the fish look like suspended. Then it's money!

I have the similar Lowrance combo, great stuff, love the DI makes reading structures so much easier IMHO, especially on the Hatchie where you can get tangled in/at just about everywhere in all of that mess.

GPS is a nice feature to, it let's me mark where I drop my slatbaskets, I don't like tying them off on shore since they are to easy for other folks to find that way.

How many slatbaskets are you putting out? Isn't 1 the limit here in TN?

Sportsman license limits you to a single one, but there is no limit to the number you can have in the water with a commercial license, so long as they are tagged.
