The plight of the wandering envelope (Update-Final)

Update: The "overnight" envelope arrived yesterday after a month. That route this thing went is beyond stupid.

Gulfport, MS to Chattanooga, then Chattanooga to here (28 miles)

PO didnt take off the old box owners forwarding tag so it went back to Chattanooga. (Where I was told they would see it shouldnt be forwarded and it would be here the next day)

Forwarded to someone in Texas

Brought back to Memphis where it was there (Hours?) then sent on to Chattanooga (Again)

Sat in Chattanooga a day or two then went back to Memphis. (Where I was told it would be brought back to Chattanooga and delivered "day after tomorrow")

Before reading further I have to explain, since the USPS doesn't seem to know, I would assume no one else does either considering they are the experts "Memphis and Chattanooga are both cities in Tennessee"

After spending a day in Memphis, it arrives in Portland, Oregon

Next day sent from Portland, Oregon back to Memphis

From Memphis to here (Doesnt show a stop in Chattanooga)

After a month I can get the revolver off to the guy who bought it, who has been exceptionally understanding of the mess.

Mentioned this sort of offhand in a different thread about 03 mailings. But it is even better than the original.

Opened a PO Box for people I dont know to mail to me, Gunbroker transactions, genealogy that sort of thing.

First transaction, nearly a month ago, the buyer sends me a money order with tracking through USPS, no problem, I follow it.

It gets to the PO and I go to pick it up. Open the box, and it isnt there. What is there is the yellow forwarding tag from the last person who held the box.

Talk to the front employees, they didnt remove the yellow thingy after the box was rented. So the envelope (With payment) got forwarded to the old owners house.

Spoke to a manager (Or whatever), stated "Oh, dont worry, it will be here tomorrow, once it gets to Chattanooga, the machine will read it, see no forwarding address and send it back.

Next day, no envelope. 2 days after that still no envelope. Tracking shows delivered, but not where.

10 days and several visits later, with no envelope, I speak to the Post Master.

That day, 2 days ago, it had been sent back to Memphis.

Post Master pulls up his screen in his office. The envelope will be sent back to Chattanooga from Memphis, one day to process, it will be here day after tomorrow.

Day after tomorrow and the next day comes, no envelope. Its stil sitting in Memphis waiting to be routed to Chattanooga.

Tracking today shows movement. It left Memphis.

If you can guess where it is without scrolling down you win a cookie.

PORTLAND OREGON!!!

Next stop Okinawa?

I once sent a letter with tracking information and even I didn't see a reason for it to leave the state if memory serves it went though Portland.  Maybe that where the mystery packages end up or the USPS auction center.

I sold two knives last year. Both to members here. One sent a money order, one sent a check two days later. They both disappeared. Literally. Neither was ever cashed, or seen or heard from again. USPS is great on price most of the time, but they are getting fairly careless.
