Hunting for a new pistol in .45?

Ok, ok...I have only owned a pistol for 10 months, and am shopping for my new pistol. I love .45's..why?...Because I can.

So I finally got up to Guns and Leather in Greenbriar and tested my final two options..the M&P .45 and the Glock 21. Wow...two nice guns but for me the Glock wins. I was shooting MagTech ammo.

Here is why:

It's big, I am big..it fits me well. It was alot smoother to fire, trigger felt better, I had better control of the gun. Loading was a breeze with the Glock..takes 13 rounds and all 13 rounds went in eagerly. The M&P holds 10 rounds, I could only manage 8 at a time ( I am sure it needed more breaking in ). The Glock magazines just kept saying "feed me more, I want moreeeee". The sights on both guns were factory, the Glock sights were alot easier for me to pick up quicker.

I shot a 5 round rep out of both guns...1st round to make sure my aim was on, then 4 in succession. Glock were all within a 6 inch group. M&P kinda went all over, but again..it was too small for me. I was not comfortable at all with the M&P. I am not saying the M&P is a bad gun, it is just not made for ME.

Reason for this post:

I have read alot of posts by folks who want to know "what gun should I buy?"...I am telling you the absolute truth....spend the $50 bucks it may take to test out 2 or 3 guns. You cannot return it if you don't like it. The best you can do is to sell it to one of US (hahaha) and go get the gun you shoulda thought you might have wanted..kinda.

I would go with the G21. I'm not a big Glock guy, but I like the G21 slim frame. It's still a larger frame but the slim frame makes it better to CC. Although it's a bit large for me to CC. I also look at the more rounds the better. But I would guess the M&P offers mags with higher counts?.?.?

I agree renting before buying only makes since.

Did you try the XD series?

I didn't like the feel of the XD, so I never shot one..it just didn't feel right in my hand???

I currently own a Ruger Security Six...and I love it.

As far as "feeling like a big badass"...well..that's not my thing.:rock:

I'll stand up for the G21sf. I'm 5'10" and 170, and can conceal that monster on my hip in a regular t-shirt. It'll print if I wear a shirt much tighter though. The smaller frame, shorter trigger reach and backstrap make a world of difference for a guy with average hands like mine. I tried out a few different guns in .45 and definitely think trying before buying is smart.

Now I've gotta shoot an M&P though, they're comfortable as anything in my hand.

I seem to have had a ton more wrist-twist with the M&P as opposed to the G21. I think it was because it was just that much smaller. I was holding it tighter because it felt too small I guess...I dunno? Like the XD, it just felt weird in my hands. I love how they look, the XD and the M&P, but it is the fit that matters. Again, I am big...I can palm basketballs, and when I played football and rugby I could grab the balls out the air with one hand. I got big mits I tell ya.....heh

I bought a M&P .45 yesterday, and I am seriously in love. Take this with a grain of salt because I am very much a novice shooter, but I was all fired up to get the glock, even shot a few different glocks and liked them. Then on a whim, I tried the M&P. Woah!

I know everyone is different, and I'm not a 'big guy' (except a bit around the waist ), so maybe that's it. I guess it really comes down to this: rent everything you think you might even possibly like so you have that big ol' goofy grin of satisfaction on your face when you leave the shop with that new gun.

go with the one that fits you the best, so it sounds like it should be the glock. i have shot glocks and the xd. for me i would choose the xd just because it fit my hand better.

The new M&P 45C is real kewl.... only 8+1 but nice...

The G-30 fits my large hands and shoots good.

however you cant beat a 1911 in 45ACP
