I go back to Kentucky every now and again.  Less often now that my dad's gone.  I always look forward to seeing that Welcome to Tennessee sign the most when I start driving back this way.  The only thing Kentucky lets a handgun owner do differently up there is carry one openly without any sort of a permit.  The permit is required for concealed carry only.

Moving here and complaining about how our state runs is paramount to someone picking on your sister. It's okay if you do, but nobody else is allowed.

But seriously, we get a lot of transplants here and all they do is bitch and moan about how much better things were where they came from. It just gets old and we tend to get defensive after hearing it for so long. They are usually from much farther north, though. "Take your whining ass back home" is just a natural knee-jerk reaction.

There must be something they/you like about TN or you wouldn't have moved here. It's usually jobs, no income tax, or some other economic reason, but everything can't be perfect for everyone or we'd be WAY too crowded by now.

Tennessee's gun laws are horrible to me.

I am now a Tennessean and I will do whatever I can to improve them.

Went to the pro 2nd amendment gun rallies downtown while I still had a KY license.

 

Every state should be a zero on the Brady list.

I haven't ever crossed the TN/KY line, but I'd guess there's not a one way gate on the border. :rofl:

I am not saying every thing is better in Ky. I am saying the gun laws are better. Which they are. I am not going to apologize if facts upset you.

 

Income tax is better here.

Vehicle registration is better here

Business climate is better there (Far less regulation and red tape.)

Food tax is better there.

Gas prices are better here.

 

You all need to chill out. I am on your side. You all just got one more pro 2nd amendment friend in this state who is actually a productive member and active in politics.

Again you are incorrect. You can also have your handgun out in the vehicle loaded without a permit.

You can bring it to work in the parking lot without being fired. Tn the Employer has the right to fire you still.

You can carry in public spaces like the library, parks  and the zoo in KY. Open or concealed.

Ky has a better Castle doctrine which allows self defense anywhere and not just inside your home.

The fees are far cheaper and you get to keep your license longer.

 

There is a reason TN is number 19 on the brady campaigns list (The lower the number the more strict the gun laws) and one more bad law away from getting a gold star from them, while Ky is 45th on their list.

I absolutely do not support Obama or anyone in the Democrat party.

Most of the Republicans suck too actually but they are a far better choice than any Democrat.

 

I am more of a Libertarian / Thomas Jefferson Republican.

Ron Paul is my guy and I was ecstatic to vote for Rand PAul.

Well I like Tennessee alright, I lived here when I was younger. I moved here because I love my wife, she is from Chattanooga. And here is where I'll make my stand. So live or die I'm here. I just always have looked at laws and regulations from a Constitutional perspective whether I lived here or in Alabama, and to my mind all of the gun and knife laws we have here or there are totally unconstitutional.

Despite what anyone else says, welcome, travr6. :wave:  Tennessee has been my adopted state since 1985-- I come from Louisiana by way of Alabama & Mississippi, and I can tell you that Tennessee definitely trumps the other three in terms of overall standard of living. The Volunteer State is a great place to live-- not perfect, but it's just right for me, though we can always strive to make it better. I'm not crazy about some of the gun laws either, but at least they're not as draconian as some of the socialist blue states. I hope you will find as good a fortune as I have here-- I've visited 44 of the 50 states, and it's been enough to tell me that I ain't gonna live nowhere else. :up:

Read the thread with some amusement then disappointment...hate to see anyone banned or slammed...BUT we know the issues facing us in TN, we already live here. 

 

Yes, we have fees for everything and a fat sales tax but no income tax and coming from another state, it could be a system shock.

 

OTOH, I could move to any other state in the union and say why TN is superior because of x. y. z and get the same response - door swings both ways, 40 goes east and west and 75 north and south...

 

We are also fortunate that TN is pretty 2A friendly in that 50%+ of our state legislators have a HCP (info may be outdated)

I moved here in January 2011 from KY and paid the fee at the DOT, got my fingerprints, and got my permit in about 6 weeks.  My dad did the same.  Maybe it has changed since then.
