Saying Al Qaeda is about defeated and emptying embassies

It's a bit strange when the narrative from the White House pet, Jay Carney says Al Qaeda

leadership has been decimated, and we have begun to start emptying embassies in that

region because of threats. At face value, to me, anyway, it looks like someone has been

caught in a big whopper of a lie, once again, or this could be very well something to

diffuse from all the rest of the scandals going on in DC.

I think Al Qaeda is still a threat, but I also think this is a poorly set up ruse to throw the

American public away from the "phony scandals" as Obama calls them. His popularity

is still on the decline, and that hurts midterm elections. A new war is in the works. That

seems to work for Democrats when they want to steer us away from domestic events.

Bill Clinton strategy 101. He did this with Bosnia because of a blue dress and the girl

who wore it scandal.

The problem with the scenario is Obama is painting himself in a corner with this because

Al Qaeda doesn't care about him, but will take advantage of causing carnage if given

the opportunity. They just want the Great Satan to fall. We just shouldn't be allowing this

to happen and help an enemy.

I can see Obama saying "the enemy of our enemy is our friend, the friend of our enemy

is our enemy, the friend of our friend is our ...what? Now how does that go?"

This is a huge political screw up. We will pay the price.

Well, I'll say that there is no doubt that there are several organizations out there who have the training, funding and motivation to conduct attacks against us and our allies.  That threat will never go away.  The internet has changed the way terrorism works as a strategy.  Success is acheived with the smallest attacks of little to no consequence.  So it's safe to say that for the rest of our lives this will be the norm.  So I'm not so quick to call this a distraction, since it is realistic that this threat exists.  They can't all be hoaxes, obviously.  But I'm sure if we would have reacted to intel on 9/11 and stopped it, there would be plenty of folks who would say it was all a distraction by Clinton/Bush or whoever was in office.

I don't think this takes the eye off the ball.  The Zimmerman thing sure did, but I don't think the al Qaeda threat is doing this administration any favors, especially since the reaction to the threat was dramatic enough to conflict with what Obama has said about al Qaeda in recent history.  No, I think this is an effort to keep another black eye like Benghazi from happening.  Obama couldn't be so lucky to have another white guy shoot a black teen and take the focus off his scandals.  They were playing this one safe to prevent an attack, in my opinion.

Well, although I think Obama was in error to characterize AQ in any way decimated, anyone with any common sense realizes that combating AQ in the manner that we do is like playing a deadly version of the Whack-A-Mole game. In order to defeat an enemy you have to be more deadly, and that includes anyone associated with them. If you use your family or anyone else as a shield then their deaths are on you; not the one you are fighting.

I agree with you, Dan. I do, however, think there is a good bit of timing being played into this. No doubt the bad guys

could take advantage of it and cause a lot of carnage, but Obama is facing a lot of congressional scrutiny from all

those "phony scandals", as he calls them. That threat from the middle east could be real. No denying that, but from

this administration's history of never letting a good crisis go to waste, I think there is more to it. I doubt Al Qaeda will

do anyone any favors, except in the name of Allah, which they will use as an excuse to cause harm. There are

passages in the Quran that allow for lies and deception, and give allowances to break the rules from Allah to achieve

their greater goal. Nothing would surprise me from that bunch.

Too many scandals going on at the same time for me to discount it.
