He was simply one of the numerous GOP senators who voted to end filibuster and take up the Manchin-Toomey Background Check Bill back in April, the actual passage of which both he and Lamar voted nay.

That's often said, but really not fair in this case.

 

The only way he could vote against it was to allow it to come to a vote, and the GOP decided it was better to actually defeat the thing than prevent it coming to the floor at all. And they knew they had enough Dem votes to do it even with four GOP defectors,  or they wouldn't have.

 

Though most here absolutely skewered all of them for doing it.

All this doesn't mean he wouldn't vote for some kind of gun control in the future. He sticks his finger in the wind,

after it come out of his ass. I'm not too fond of bragging on him. He is not a defender of the Bill of Rights, in most

cases, nor will Alexander be, under the right circumstances.

Perhaps that is wise strategery or whatever, but am reminded for instance of when Bush Jr. signed McCain's campaign finance bill because he was certain the supreme court would nix it, but surprise surprise, the supreme court upheld it, and only reversed tiny parts after the R's lost in both 2006 and 2008. After the horses were out of the barn, so to speak.

There's still plenty of reasons to try to replace both of them, unfortunatly they have most of the money to run their campaigns and commercials while a decent candidate doesn't have the funds or a  chance. That's why we have Haslam also.
