best 1911 gunsmith in Nashville area?

Recommended Posts

got a compact 1911 and it needs the trigger lightened about 1.5#, smoothed out and worked over.  Anyone know who to go to in the area?  I also wouldn't mind to ship this somewhere else to a better shop as it's my daily and want it done right.

Have only used a smith a few times in the Knoxville area and that was just for general stuff, this one needs to be someone with a lot of 1911 experience.

Opinions are like buttholes: Everyone has one, and they all stink! So here's mine:

I have had experience with Jeff Wall at Guns and Leather and Chad Kandros on the same weapon. Since Jeff easily diagnosed a problem with my 1911A1 that had Chad scratching his head, (along with other gunsmiths), I tend to lean towards Jeff at this point.

Tim Calhoun (who is a member here) is over in Kingston springs. He put up with my constant questions. Did a quick turn around time. I was very impressed with his work.

I'm sure quite a few others on here would highly recommend him.

Edit: Side note I shipped my slide to him. He quoted me a price and that price included the return shipping.

Tom at Lock Stock and Barrel in Franklin does great work.  Can be a bit of wait for him but we'll worth it.

For the work you want - - - Jeff Walle.

When you are ready to have some metal cut and shaped - - - Tim Calhoun.

I have used both of them on several of my 1911s over the years.  Never a disappointment.

Sam Hoster

Not a lot that Sam doesn't know about 1911s.  He is the man has built a lot of custom firearms for a gunshops who claim them as their work (Uselton).

Another one for Tim Calhoun. He's the only guy I've used on 1911's, but I was real happy.

I've had great 1911 experiences with both Jeff Walle and Sam Hoster.
I've heard good things about Mr Calhoun and Mr Kandros, but have no direct dealings.

You might also check into Hero Guns...sorry, his name escapes me at the moment.

The thing I like about Tim... he's a winning competition shooter. He knows how to make his guns run. He also builds some pretty good customs...

Jeff Walle wasn't too shabby back during his heyday.USPSA  Master back when they only had 1 division and several time State Champion.
