Dyer Co. Tennessee Adopts Second Amendment Preservation Resolution

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – Dyer County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution supporting the Second Amendment during its Monday night meeting.

County Commissioner Dr. Brandon Dodds introduced the Second Amendment Protection resolution, and the Local Government Committee adopted it last month. The resolution calls upon the Tennessee legislature, judiciary and executive branches to “adopt and enact any and all measures necessary to reject and nullify the enforcement of any federal laws, acts, orders, rules or regulations in violation of the Constitution of the United States.” (Full text below)

“I believe it is one of the most important amendments,” Dodds told the State Gazette. “I believe it is not only illegal but unenforceable whenever the federal government passes a law limiting the Second Amendment.”

Local Government Committee chair Commissioner David Agee introduced the resolution to the full commission, noting that several counties had already passed similar resolutions. The Tennessee Sheriff’s Association and Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box have both voiced support for these type of resolutions.

Measures like these are a great first step. They send a strong message and encourage lawmakers at the state level to take action. But once passed, residents need to seize the momentum and turn it up a notch. Cities and counties need to back up resolutions with ordinances prohibiting any cooperation with federal agents attempting to enforce acts violating the Second Amendment. By blanketing the entire state with local governments refusing to enforce federal gun control measures, they will be rendered toothless. Judge Andrew Napolitano affirmed that such widespread noncompliance can make federal laws “nearly impossible to enforce” (video here). Quite simply, the federal government absolutely cannot enforce gun control in Tennessee without the cooperation of state and local governments.

Glad to see my neighboring county doing this. Thumbs up. Need to get after Crockett's sheriff and see what he's willing to do, now.

Has the county removed all their 1359 signs from county buildings and property?  Otherwise it's just lip service.

"As long as I am Sheriff, any federal regulation or Presidential Executive order that I know is adverse to the Constitution and that infringes upon the rights of my citizens shall not be enforced by me or my deputies, nor will I allow anyone to seize any firearm from law abiding citizens within this county."

                                                                                                                                    Sheriff Jeff Box

So an HCP is not required to carry in Dyer County?

Hell, I only "wish" it were that way. It took me a good while just to find the non-code compiant posted signs at the movie theatre among all the other crap on the windows and doors. Almost walked in loaded right in front of an officer. I know it's a private business but I wish they would make these places post according to code and not hide that stuff among the advertising noise out of easy view. But yea, it's mostly lip service for political reasons but at least there's something to hold him to.

If private business want to post, thats fine, I can choose to not do business with them...  The government is the one entity that I can not live my life without having to do business with them, and when they post it's a huge hassle.

So I'm curious if the lobbies of the sheriff's office is posted? I understand areas where prisoners are kept being no gun zones, but if the deputies can carry then law abiding citizens should as well.

If the county is still posting buildings and property, then all of this is lip service because they clearly don't respect law abiding citizens.
