I agree with this. And I'll also add that shopping around at loal gun shops can be not only alot of fun but can educate you a little more on what youre shopping for....(i.e. weight and feel).

Personally, I generally despise gun shops. But I guess that's another thread completely

Man, if I had a nickel for eery Bud's transfer I've done, I'd close up shop (for today). Bud's is ok, I usually dont mind matching or beating their price on most things, but some stuff they run specials on can't be touched on a normal basis - I remember not long ago they bought a ton of one specific pistol (cant remember which - wanting to say an M&P but why would an M&P be on closeout? :)) and were able to sell it for about $60 under cost out the door. It's cool that they are able to do that, but its a little aggrivating to me, and I'm sure other dealers too, when customers expect the same deal out of you and get mad when you cant get anywhere close AND have to charge tax and tics on top of it.

Bud's does have a retail location in Paris, KY as well - their online sales are a seperate business if I recall. When I went to the Hawaii trip with S&W last year I met one of the lady's from Bud's & her husband - super nice people.

All in all though I've found that if you worry too much about what your competition is doing, your spending less time with your own customers and just generally become a bitter person~

I've been following this thread for days now. I have never been to Hero Gear, Guns & Leather, or JWP's shop yet, but after reading their responses, I will be making trips to see them when I can start buying guns and stuff again. (Dumping all my $$$ into my business now)

I went through the whole online vs local shop drama in the saltwater reef hobby. To save $65 I bought a refugium from an online retailer that I could have picked up at the Aquatic Critter but NOOOOOO........ I had to wait 2 weeks for it to show up from CA, then they forgot a rubber seal, and I had a big mess on my hands and about $1,500 in livestock in a precarious situation. I rann down to the Critter where Chris (the owner Chris, not the other Chris) knew that I had cheated them out of a sale, but he helped me devise a solution anyway and didn't even charge me for it. Dang I felt like a hot smelly turd that day. I'm not saying that every local store is like that, but I think the good ones are worth going to.

From the reading I've done here, I don't think you guys are snowballin' me, and I look forward to working with you guys in the future.

Oh, and Dan.... make sure you've always got a Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail .45 in stock... that's on the top of my list! =)

I buy local because I like to fondle them and walk out with them. I like that instant gratification. I also like being shown new stuff that I may not have heard of, seen or thought of.

Ummmmmmm.we are still talking guns here right?...cuz I am getting a little freaked out

Come on down to Knoxville. I'll take you to a couple of great hole-in-the wall vintage guitar stores too.

Cool! I also worked at Corner Music here in Nashville. I learned a lot about how an individual (ie:non-chain) retailer works there, too. I guess if I had to boil it all down to one word.... relationships. That entails treating people right, every time, as well. Oh, and I'm a bigtime vintage Ibanez guy. Paul Gilbert is one of my favorite players, mostly because of his Ibanez collection. (That and he can freakin' rip!)

I know I'll be going to NC for a family reunion early next year.... I may try and stop in K-ville to check you place out. :)

Yea, Corner was snobby, but lots of cool gear to play with!! Joe Hinchliffe, the guitar tech, was the coolest guy there, and by far the best guitar player in the store. He is also a darn good dude, and a great friend. Fork's is cool too! I got a smokin deal on a Mapex kit there for my church. Good to see them branching out. Gary's a good guy.

:)
