I wonder if Bud's will still be in business when all the local stores are out of business?

Doesn't matter, there won't be anyone left to do the transfers.

So Buds is putting you out of business? Somehow I highly doubt that.

I don't think there is anything wrong with buying from Bud's or some other online shop.

If you choose to do this, perhaps you can do a few things:

1. Do all of your research online or with the e-merchant you plan on buying from.

2. If you plan on walking into a local gun shop (not pawnshop. I dont consider those real gun shops) to do your research, touch all of the guns, spend the owner's valuable time, please be considerate and let them know you plan on buying online.

That way the gun shop owner/employee can decide how much time he wants to spend helping you and letting you select that perfect gun which you plan on buying elsewhere.

3. When you DO buy online, and can't figure out how to work something, need something fixed or repaired (for low or no cost) need that shop owner's help, please dial 859-987-9929 and ask the helpful guys at Bud's to troubleshoot your problem and fix it for you.

I think that online shopping is fine, so long as you don't expect your local shop to help you if/when you have problems or need help/advice.

For all the bargain hunters:

Looking at Bud's, here are just a few price comparisons.

Smith and Wesson M&P Buds price 518.00 and 523.00 My everyday price: 509.00

Smith and Wesson 642 Buds price 403.00 My everyday price 417.00

CMMG Gas Piston AR Buds price 1299.00 My everyday price 1299.00

FN PS90 Buds price 1657.00 My everyday price 1699.00

GSG-5 Buds price 470.00 My everyday price 499.00

Heckler and Koch USC Buds price 1398.00 My everyday price 1400.00

We can do this all night, but my point is that Bud's has good prices but not the "absolute cheapest" and it may do you some good to establish a good relationship with a quality shop.

i deal with this every day except on electronics and not the guns. It's the same story but replace it with tv's and worse. At least you have to have a license to sell (or attempt to sell) firearms, not so with electronics.

To second what Joe has to say, if you want to buy online, by all means. But don't waste my, or my employees time, getting opinions, helping make the decision and telling you how to make it work. Especially don't come back after you bought somewhere else and ask for help to make it work......... I consider this close to stealing....took someone's time (remember time=money) that you have no intention of buying from. whether it is a shop owner or a salesperson, they could use their time to help someone who sees the value of a local retailer who will be there after you take their $$$

I bought a M&P9C from Hero Gear a while back. The first one I looked at was fine untill I checked the barrel. It had 5 or 6 rings on the inside that just looked bad. May not have made any differance but it wasn't right. Dan pulled out a few more and they were all fine, so I thought I was set. Bought the gun and went home (about an hour away) only to find out I had 1 12 round mag and 1 10 round mag. Called Dan to see if that's how they came and was told no, and offered to swap it out next time I was there. Since I wasn't going to be that way for a while I decided to handle it through S&W which required me to wait on them to mail me a shipping label, me to mail the mag back then them ship me a 12 rounder. That took around 3 weeks. I can only imagine what it would have took to get a barrel straighted out, although I'm sure S&W would if I had gotten the first gun.

Whoever receives your internet purchase likely won't care what your problems are and really shouldn't since they are only getting paid to receive it. If you buy some place like Hero Gear they will take care of you.

I buy local because I like to fondle them and walk out with them. I like that instant gratification. I also like being shown new stuff that I may not have heard of, seen or thought of.

Well I would like to point out that I have never bought a gun online & most likely will never do so. A gun is 1 of those thing I like to see the exactly which 1 im getting. The only exception would possibly be a surplus sig or something of that nature. I way to picky about my gun purchases & they way my luck is it would have a scratch or imperfection if I bought it online that would drive me nuts. Now my other hobby which is reefkeeping is another story. I almost always buy online but simply for the reason The same thing I would buy at the store for say 1200.00 would cost me about 700.00 shipped to my door Im just using the amount for a recent piece of equipment I had to buy for reference. There are a couple real good vendors on this board that will do you right. I have never met Joe from HeroGear before but hes done alot for TGO & Phillip @ Goodletsville gun shops a really down to earth cool dude.

I talked to a guy at Goodlettsville gun shop about a bersa 380, and he quoted me $100 higher than buds???? Is that worth the customer service? I am sure a FTF I would get a better deal, but still. I guess we will see.

It looks as if I have offended some people by posting good prices at an online store. There is competition in the world, and I don't think some can handle it. I dont want anyone going out of business, but price is important. Yes, having local customer service is a factor to an extent. If prices were comparable, i'd buy local. But by all means, I will go elsewhere if it is a significant savings. I originally posted this due to what prices I have been quoted at local pawn shops, and more importantly, used guns from individuals being higher than new.

My guess on their pricing is that they don't have local competition so they think that they can get whatever they ask. They may have quite a few guys that don't know what they are doing come in to buy their guns at inflated prices so why sell them for less. They are a pawn shop and don't really care about service later.

Fortunately for me I have Guns & Leather within 30 mins. and I also have a neighbor who is going to be opening a store in the 100 Oaks area in Nashville soon. I have been in business for myself in another field so I am BIG on buying locally.

Man, this is discouraging. I decided after all the replies to qut being a penny pincher, and that the local buy was the way to go. I knew I'd rather have a local shop to go to and chat it up. But, after shopping locally this is what I found. I got my sights set on a Bersa 380. The cheapest deal we could work out was $360 after uncle sam and tics. Now come on, thats $99 higher than online. The guy was nice and very helpful, but $99. Maybe ya'll can help out. I am coming to Nashville tomorrow, and maybe find a better deal there?

p.s. - My findings might be due to the fact that there is only a gun shop every 40 miles or more. Kinda roural around here. The no competition factor might be in place.

Oh, I dont know.

My shop is in the middle of East Bumble F*ck, and we seem to be ok.

There are several good shops in the Nashville area that should give you a fair and competitive price.

I drove an hour over to see Joe in BFE and was well worth it. Now I did pester him on pricing and inventory prior to making the trip, I just wanted to be sure he had what I wanted.

I will make a return visit one day as well. As far as im concerned 50$ is well worth a face to face.

If a more well-known shop isn't worth the drive, then ordering from Buds may be a good option, since there isn't a market around there to help you out. Just one of those things, I guess.
