looking for a place to hunt out west while on vacation

My wife and I have 3 kids, and we are planning a road trip out west or somewhere! We just need to get away and spend some time together without the kids.  My wife actually offered to let me go hunt for a couple days while we were out there, she knows how much I love hunting.  I guess my question is this, what are my options, where can I go hunt for 2 or 3 days and not cost $2500 just to hunt there?  I have no idea where to go, we have no plans on what state to go to, we are open to ideas.  I have hunted whitetails in TN and IN, I would love to tag an elk or muley.  If you have some suggestions or ideas, or you go out west and have some connections, please let me know.  I can offer my whitetail hunting spot here in TN for a swap a hunt?  Land is in granville by cookville.   Any help would be awesome

I would get some info in or around NM....you can hunt coyotes and rabbit there all day long..Not sure what licence you need but might be worht looking into...We hunted onWhite Sands Missile range when we where stationed there..jackrabbit sare plentyful..Coyotes are ok....

CO sells elk tags over-the-counter and has lots of public land. WY had last-minute unsold pronghorn tags at a discount last year. Small game would require less prep and gear though... Coyotes or prairie dogs would be fun.

Also a Texas hog hunt is fun and affordable but not sure if TX fits into the "vacation" plans.

I am open to smaller game hunting, the thought of less prep is good, I know the season is getting close.  My dream is an elk but that might be for another year, although that is my first choice. lol
