Maryville's Mayor is anti-2nd Amendment

I wonder of the Maryville Times would have ran this story without the fine folks here digging into it, well done!  The residents or voters need to know!

Guns, mainly automatic and semiautomatic, are sold without any background checks. The shootings could happen anywhere.”

If automatics are being sold without background checks; it is already a serious Federal crime.

Private sales of semi-autos are legal in this state. So what do you mean when you say “illegal guns” Mr. Mayor?

I’m confused.

What this amounts to is this "progressive" lackey, Taylor, only supports the parts of the Constitution he likes.  The â€œI have a friend who is retired military. He said there is only one place assault rifles should be and that’s on the battlefield” statement is priceless.  As if somehow his friend's military service gives his anti-Constitutional views extra credibility.   I served in the military too but that doesn't make me a higher class of citizen.  That tactic is pathetic and shameful.

I pointed out the anti-2nd Amendment bias in the article at the Daily Times and they claim in a response that there is none.  Are they really that deluded?

My reply to the editor at the Daily Times,

"Daily Times , your reporter failed to mention that the MAIG is an extremely controversial anti-gun coalition funded by Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City.  Your reporter also failed to point out that the guns that Tom Taylor is railing against are 100% legal.  The truth is he wants to institute another "assault weapons" ban and to make guns like the AR-15 illegal to own by the common citizen.

Over all this article is very poorly written and heavily biased in favor of curbing 2nd Amendment rights.  To say otherwise is a feeble attempt at deception or maybe just deluded."

Not sure if they will allow this to stay up since they seem to think there was no bias in their reporter's article.  Nothing but leftist bias in media local and national...

I want to thank all of you who have taken the time to call mayor Taylor out along with the Maryville Times.   I'm aghast that a town in east tennessee could elect such a man as Taylor; but it's happening in lots of places.  Taylor is a typical "elitist" jackass who knows what's best for us "delightful rustics".  He knows better than the Founding Fathers and the pioneers who settled this country what should be done.   He is truly disgusting.

Thanks again for all your work.

You make a valid point, but one minor detail....  He's wasn't elected by popular vote, he was appointed by the city council members (who are elected).

Good heavens!!  I had no idea....

Well, it seems to me that if the City Council appointed him, more than likely, they can un-appoint him!  I believe it's time for some of the good people of Maryville to start making some phone calls to their City Council members!

The Daily Times is notorious for publishing their garbage before checking any facts.  I've seen them publish stories as fact that I knew for a fact to be erroneous on several occasions.

Some mayors stumbled into MAIG unawares, but Taylor is on record as being in lockstep with Bloomberg.  Progressives prey on the dumb and dumber.

Complicit. Even worse.

Too bad Taylor can't be voted out.  The councilmen that voted him in can be though.  If they can kick them out up in Pennsylvania, we can most certainly give them the boot here.

It'll take awhile.  The city council members who picked the mayor are on a staggered election cycle.  The MAIG controversy may peter out before Taylor's held accountable.

Not to dig up an old thread, but having grown up in Maryville and stumbling across this, it hits close to home. I grew up with two of the children of two of our city councilmen. Fun fact about Joe Swan who is a really great guy (http://truewestmagazine.com/jcontent/history/history/ask-the-marshall/3859-what-happened-to-davy-crocketts-rifle-qbeautiful-betsy). Tom is a really nice guy, and I've always given him my business at commercial cutters in Maryville, but we certainly can't talk politics and find much common ground. Hate to see he joined up with such an ignorant cause and signed off on an article in the times could not have made the cause or the mayor sound any less informed on the topic. I'm glad it was written as it was because the comments on the article make it clear there are still people out there that think logically. Topics like this also explain why I bought my first house after graduation from UT in the county..
