Feedback on Gallatin/Castalian Springs

I live in Franklin currently, but am interested in a property up in the Castalian Springs area, just a few minutes east of Gallatin.

I've been poking around the 'net looking for any reasons to avoid the area. There were the home invasion + rape incidents (2) about a year ago that I came across (I'm sure they made radio/tv across the Nashville area but I don't remember hearing about them.)

Any other positives/negatives about the area? From another thread here it seems Gallatin Gun Club has a membership waiting list, so I may have trouble finding a nearby place for target practice. I live a mile from the Charlie Haffner Memorial Range here ($60/yr) which is really convenient--would miss that for sure.

I'm somewhat familiar with Hendersonville from my son's travel soccer days, less so with Gallatin.

Would also like to know of any good conservative reformed churches in the area--if any.

Pretty good area, especially value wise. I'm looking out that way myself. There is still meth problem in rural areas, but there's way worse in the cities. H'ville has good ranges, I don't know about gallatin.

Sumner Gun and Supply is the ONLY good thing I have to say about Gallatin. 25 yard, indoor range that only seems to be crowded on Saturdays. I'll be renewing my membership, next month. (unless I decide to move away from Gallatin ;) )

Grew up in Gallatin. Its certainly grown but if you plan to move to castalian springs, be ready to drive near hendersonville for most city comforts. Its a nice area out there however.

I've lived in Gallatin since '95, over near the airport. Haven't had any issues with anything. My MIL lived in Castailian Springs till her hubby died; she moved into a small apartment on Airport Rd, not too far from us. Like any place, there are areas to stay out of, but all in all, it's been a pleasant experience living here.

Westmoreland, now, is THE meth capital of the world. It really is, that's not a joke. Highest meth per capita in the country.

I live in Gallatin, have for three years. I shoot (in door range)at either Blue Line or Sumner gun shop. Blue line doesn't allow rifle except 22lr. Sumner gun shop does. Both are friendly places with nice staff and their membership rates are reasonable.I think Blue Line has more perks for the membership dollar. For instance free ffl transfer and other in-house discounts.

I have family in and around Gallatin. I almost moved up there. Good area, not overgrown like Franklin....Yet.

Thanks for all the great info! Regarding shooting in my own backyard--the property has 7 acres but the house sits very close to the rear of the property. There is a fenceline and pasture beyond, though I haven't seen any livestock the couple times I've been up there. There aren't any close neighbors, but you can see houses in the distance, probably within earshot of gunfire. Most of the acreage is in front of the house, so I'd either be shooting toward livestock (unless the land behind is unused) or toward traffic (even though it's well beyond the front of the house.)

Does anyone know a good home inspector up in the Gallatin area who can also recommend remedies? I think most home inspectors probably just note problems and that's about it. I made an offer on the property, but it's contingent on the home inspection, and there are three issues I need to have someone really competent look over and advise me on:

1. There is a roof leak around a chimney--probably the flashing and an easy fix.

2. There are areas of moisture along the front of the house in the basement, which seem to correspond to the downspouts which run underground. I figure the lines are backed up and causing overflow against the foundation--in which case the fix should be fairly easy as well.

3. Huge deck on back of house has the railing canting outward a bit, which appears could be due to settling of the concrete patio below (cracked) pulling the columns down a bit, although the desk seems level. Maybe an easy fix or may need to figure out how to boost the columns and then fill in concrete to re-level the patio.

Other than the above the house seems in really good shape, and at 50 cents on the dollar (foreclosure) will be a good investment and a nice place to live.
