Colt Combat Commander Question.

My Father passed a few months ago and I received his guns. He did not have a great deal of guns, but the ones he had were nice and for most part they were very well taken care of. My question is how to get some infomation on the Colt Commander. Would it be best to call Colt or is there a web site that I can use to find out the date of the gun?

If there is a web site, and someone knows the URL, could they please pass to me. Thanks.

Your Father's Colt Combat Commander is finished in satin nickel.  It appears to be in excellent condition which is great news since satin nickel is very delicate and therefore tends to be not that durable of a finish on a firearm.  Colt quit making satin nickel models around 1984 when the stainless steel models appeared.

The small factory sights have been replaced with Millet sights front and rear.  The grips of course are Hogue held by aftermarket hex head screws.  The Colt medallion stocks (the factory calls them stocks, not grips) are usually walnut, but by the color and grain these could be Coco Bolo.  Having the factory box is a big plus.

Its a fine looking 1911.  You Dad had very good taste.

Google is your friend, but I'll do it for you since you showed us such a nice pistol. Congratulations on owning a classic.

Also, earlier production dates might not be found at that link.  You can call Colt at (800) 241-2485 and they will tell you the date of production based on the serial number.

You can also find production here.  Look under semi-auto and select Combat Commander.
